Torres - does his injury record present too big a gamble?

We may have a lot of strikers on the books but quality is the key and IMO we need at least one more top striker to go along with Tevez and Adebayor.
Torres is a top quality striker, proven at Premier League and international level.
32 games this season, 22 goals. Should his injury record this season make us look elsewhere for another top striker?
If you'd buy him how much would you pay?
If you prefer someone else who would it be?

I don't like the cunt at all TBH, but if it tears away any shred of hope those scouse fucks have I'm all for it.
Himself and Tevez would be the best strike partnership in world football IMO. You're right, his injury record is a bit of a concern, but if we are to have three top class strikers on the books, then Torres being out for while wouldn't be the worst. I think he has 18 goals in 22 apps int he league.
That's amazing!

And most of those goals were with one leg.

I'm pretty sure he had two legs chief, but I'll have a look at the highlights ;)

I would love to have Torres here despite his injury record.
My only concern would be giving such a large sum of money to Liverpool which they can then spend to reinvest. I'd pay up to £30m for him, any more than that would allow Liverpool to purchase some good players for their squad.

It's a squad game, so as long as we keep a healthy squad of strikers, even if Torres is injured we wouldn't be any worse off than we are now. 32 games would be plenty in our squad.
I agree with O.D. I can't stand Torres but he's undeniably a tremendous player & if he'd played 20 games for us this season we'd probably be challenging for the title right now rather than 4th.
I should imagine Barca will dump that lazy lump of shite they have up front & sign torres though.

We signed Santa Cruz on the strength of one good season despite him being a cripple so I can't see why Torres would be considered too much of a risk.

What a good season it was though!
Seriously though, when the guy plays he scores goals simple as that! I could take him missing 10 games, if he's going to hit 20 goals in the 28 games he does play

To be fair his injury record this season was all down to mis management instead of missing a few games to get himself sorted Rafa gamble him time and time again and it didn't pay off and he lost him for a LOT more games and they still got kicked out the champions league.

Its a couple of seasons now though and it wouldn't suprise me to see it happen again.
Anyway, like someone else mentioned, even if he only plays 28 matches and scores 20 goals that'll do.
Just read on newsnow that according to the mail, Chelsea are already in preliminary talks over a 70m move. Which of course is total bollox, but they would be our main rivals for his sig, unless Barca move Ibra on IMO.

There are injuries and injuries. Torres has been struggling a bit but THE most important thing is that he has NOT had major knee injuries/surgeries. It's the bad knee injuries that can really destroy players career. In modern game just about EVERY player go through period of injuries at some stage of their career. Especially top strikers. Torres is no exception either way. he isn't particularily injury prone nor is he Thierry Henry (freak of nature in his prime when it came to injuries and stamina.... must have completely exceptional ability to play through pain as well).
Furthermore, Torres doesn't seem to be sicknote. He does seem to be able to carry some amount of pain. There are players who seem to pull out immediately when they have little niggling injuries and if they aren't 100%. Unfortunately professional footballer at top level is rarely if ever 100% fit.
SO in short, I'd take him immediately..... my biggest problem was how he was mouthing off about us after the takeover.

Torres is the best player in the premiership by a country mile these days, it would be no gamble whatsoever. Though I really doubt he'd ever go to a club like Man City, if he was leaving Liverpool it'd be to Real Madrid I'd imagine.

Bayern Munich. :)
In the premiership I'm generally a neutral so I try to follow the league as a whole without having a bias or anti-bias towards any team. Though I'm Irish so whatever teams have more Irish players I tend to have a closer interest in, like Man City.
I'm not for or against Man City but with a bit of realism, if you were one of the greatest players on the planet and could go to any team in the world, would you really go to Man City, really? Some players are selfish like Robinho and Tevez who both have a history of jumping ship the second big bucks are waved. Torres and most world class players aren't bought that easily, I know he showed a good deal of loyalty during tough times at Atletico for a few seasons while the big clubs were knocking. I'd expect he'll do the same at Liverpool and if he was to move on it'd be for footballing and not financial reasons. I'd imagine a return to Madrid would be his first priority.

It might be a marquee signing more than a practical one given his season-on-season decline. Still, a nice chappie to have for, say, 25 games a season if he can bang in 20 goals. A nice way to augment other, slightly more fit, strikers.
I mean, how much worse could he be than Jo or RSC?

A return to Athletico or a move to their bitter rivals? I'm pretty sure you were talking up loyalty/morals and the like a minute ago, no?
And players have been moving for financial reasons for quite some time now, its just that no club has EVER had the money that Man City have. The possibilites at this club are endless. We will be one of the biggest clubs in the world, so MAYBE having to wait a season for champions league football and being on top wages whilst challenging fot he best title in world football is as bad as it gets for any footballer moving here this summer.
I don't think its going to be that hard to get whoever we want.

Aren't Tevez and Torres a bit too alike in their way of playing to form a good partnership (eyes on the ball and run until you lose it or score)? I think Tevez and Ade have every possibility to become a world class partnership. Their qualities complement each other.
