HARRY REDKNAPP has accused Manchester City of transfer threats and dirty tricks.

Tottenham's boss chose the eve of tonight's Premier League showdown at Eastlands to reveal how City used strong-arm tactics to bully Spurs.

Redknapp claimed the Londoners' fourth-place rivals made him drop his interest in signing Craig Bellamy last year by threatening to buy his other top target - Wilson Palacios - as well.

He said: "I was trying to sign Bellamy at the same time as Palacios.

"Then they came and told me 'You know, if you don't drop out of Bellamy, we'll sign Palacios too and you won't get either of them'.

"So we had no choice really. They just said 'We will blow you out of the water'.

"And then, obviously, the money they offered Bellamy we could not compete with anyway. It's not reasonable but they can do it, can't they?

"They've got the backing, they've got the clout to do that.

"They can do it if they want to somebody. I've never been in that position.

"It probably wasn't the manager at the time, anyway."

Mark Hughes was City's boss in January last year, when they bagged striker Bellamy from West Ham for £14million.

Redknapp finally signed Honduran midfielder Palacios from Wigan for £12m.

Tonight's shoot-out will have a massive impact in deciding which club grabs fourth spot in the Premier League and qualifies for Champions League football next season.

HARRY REDKNAPP admits he has no chance of signing a player if Manchester City are in the hunt for the same star.

The Tottenham manager has spoken for the first time of the frustrations of competing against the richest club in the Premier League.

Redknapp revealed how his experience of trying to beat City in the transfer market left him with burnt fingers when he attempted to land Craig Bellamy.

He believes no club in the country would have had any hope of getting the Welsh striker - and finished a loser in a short, sharp battle that was fought and won behind the scenes.

Mega-bucks City simply blew Spurs out of the water with wages, transfer fees and promises to sign another player Redknapp was chasing if he did not pull out of the race for Bellamy.

The two sides meet tonight at Eastlands in a clash that could decide who reaches the Champions League next season.

And Redknapp said: "You can persuade a player to come to your club for football reasons but, like anything, it depends.

"If you talk about five grand a week difference between another club, then it's possible.

"If the difference is 20 grand a week, then it's hard.

"Ninety nine per cent of players will go where the extra 20 grand is. It's natural, human nature. That's the problem.

"Tottenham spend good money. I will be able to spend money this summer. It's not as if we haven't already done so either.

I did like it at the time when Bruce went off on one, saying that we were trying to undermine his players in his post-match interview. I think Whelan came out afterwards and said that there was no problem with what we had done and I think he got a few extra quid.

You've got to admire Harry for playing the sympathy card, no other manager would stoop to such depths but Harry, once again, shows he can sink to thew lowest depths to get people on side.
