down under Bond/Benson in 1982 (my first relegation)
back up in 1986 with McNeill
down again with Frizell in 1987 (second relegation)
back up with Machin in 1989,
that 5-1 win (and we sack the manager 2 months later)
optimism under Howard Kendall (altho he led us an impressive 14th place...one place behind Utd in 13th)
Kendall leaves after just over a year to go back to Everton ("his first love"...cunt)
Reid takes over and leads us to 5th, 5th and 9th and then sacked in the first month of the following season
Horton arrives and leads us "back to glory".....14th and then 17th place
Ball appointed, hold on for a draw at Anfield and down we go again (third relegation)
FIVE...yes FIVE managers in one shitty season until finally Frank Clark guides us to 14th in the "Championship" (the ONLY good thing that happened that season is that four days before resigning, Alan Ball signs Paul Dickov)
Clark steers us into choppy waters and Joe Royle is appointed as we slide down again, to the third tier (fourth relegation)
Playoffs.....Wigan.....Gillingham.....Horlock....Dickov.....and we're up again
Royle takes us back up again...Premiership football
And then straight back down (fifth relegation)
KK arrives and we're up again....some great times from 2001 to 2005 and we arrive at Eastlands(thank you Keegan, Wardle, Makin, Bernstein)
Keegan walks and Pearce takes the reins of sickly City
Thaksin.....Sven.....Hughes......

Even since the Sheikh arrived
Even since the start of this season
Even since Mancini arrived at Xmas we have seen example after example of us shooting ourselves in the foot in TC'esque fashion
I agree with you Andie...this is the time for it to change. I am trying my best to believe but I need more evidence of a change in the playing mentality/fallibility before I can fully complete the necessary seismic shift in my supporter mentality.
I actually think that it's supporters in the 25-40 age bracket who have the toughest task in that regard. We have seen none of the glory and just endured a never ending stream of shit from the mid 1970'sonwards....

And here we are.....I think I'm probabaly not alone in really doing my best to believe...but after reading that lot, it's hardly surprising that lots of us have emotions kept in check for now, we've suffered way way way too much to get carried away prematurely
BUT fuck me, I want to be able to go mental and just enjoy it....please do it City, we fucking deserve this.

Can't imagine us losing tonight to be honest...been watching Gladiator clips all week "On my signal, Unleash Hell"...it's giving me goosebumps. And the cheezy Pacino rant from "Any Given Sunday" -- "but i CAN'T do it for you..."
i'm excited, nervous, yet confident. I honestly can't imagine us losing this. I really can't. I keep trying to, but it keeps coming up a City win.
Come on CITY!!!
;)

Instances of "typical City" have been around almost since our foundation. "Typical City" has been and is an endearing feature of our history and evolvement. City were commonly known as the "UNPREDICTABLES" in their early years and Frannie Lee defined it as "Cups for Cock Ups".
But let's not forget that throughout that history of typical City...we have been massively successful. Typical City never stopped us having an illustrious past. We still went on to win Championships and Cups.
Not winning stuff for the last 30 odd years is Not typical city. It was never typical that we went so long without being successful and there is no reason that we should fail now.
There were reasons for our failures, typical city wasn't one of them. Bad stewardship and poor decisions cause failure.
An important feature of "typical City" is that despite it...we have always at some point battled through it and gained success.
Typical City also equals SUCCESS....maybe by the skin of our teeth and in a convoluted way. It may have caused City fans untold stress and we may have made life harder for ourselves...But typical City has never equalled failure.
