SWP lack of effort

Postby OliverHardy » Thu May 06, 2010 8:57 am

Sorry if already posted, cant see anything, but in two of the last 3 massive games (last night and the rags) that SWP has come on he has shown very little effort in tracking back to help defend. He was arguably at fault for Sch*les' goal in the derby for losing posession and not getting back. Last night he did a similar thing just prior to the freaks goal for them. I honestly think that SWP (folk hero that he is) needs to move on now. Yes I'm sure someone will point out his run for the goal against Villa, but that's his bread and butter, we need players next season who A) Want to be at the club and B) are willing to do EVERYTHING in their means to help the side out, that means defending as an attacking player and attacking as a defending player. SWP is a mere shadow of the player he was once in my opinion, very sad to see, could see him doing well at Stoke or a similar level now.

first off it was Veiras fault for scholes goal he stood and watched as the play flew past him ,Stephen Ireland who'd just come on found himself out of position on the cross and the rest is history.Mancini brought in a crocked former legend hoping he'd lead us down the stretch and it backfired , that said we were one match away from declaring the whole team heroes and now after we faded down the stretch individual players were over anaylising every player. The real problem is having multiple managers and changing systems over and over which IMO was our real downfall this season, players like last years player of the year Stephen Ireland found he didnt fit the Mancini system ,and SWP was asked to play a different role ,mainly coming off the bench,Santa Cruz hasn't had a decent run of games to even call himself a City player yet is been called the worst player ect ect. we can go through them all and pick out faults .The players needeed to know whos the boss and what theyre roles were ,they didnt and Mancinis changing to defensive tactics with a squad full of speedy offencive players eventually cost us. Were crying out for stability at the managers position and we wont grow as a team or a club till we get it.If were sticking with Mancini then fine ,if its Mourinho even better but just leave someone in the job for a few years till they can make us a team.

sorry mate but that's a load of bollocks. You won't find a more commited member of the squad. Mancini should of used him more in recent weeks.

SWP is a good player for a top 10 team, but if we are aiming for Champions League level then he is a squad player at best. Its also worth noting that as he turns 29 this year its fair to summise his best days are in the rear view mirror.

tosh. if you can bear it and have sky+'d the games, watch them back a follow his movement. He should be tracking back when posession is lost but doesnt anymore, it cant be tactical as bellamy an johnson do!

I have to agree with this. Last night when SWP came on, his body language when he was not on the ball was all wrong. I ended up being convinced he is going. In the build up to their goal I was watching him as it was so noticeable that he was strolling back towards our goal instead of his usual effort in tracking back. The TV viewers probably won't have seen this as when he was on the ball his effort was there as normal but when he was not (and therefore not on camera) it was distinctly lacking.

It pains me to say this as Shaun has been one of my favourite players for years but I don't think he has been the same since his big mouthed embarassing Dad had a go in the papers about his contract. I hope that he stays as no one can get us all on our feet like a run from SWP

I'm with you on this one Nickyboy, SWP doesn't appear to be in the best of form, but I can't see how anyone can doubt his commitment.

he was poor again last night
After looking on Saturday that he might be getting interested again,.....even if he and 'Wrighty' are still pissed at him being paid only a 'measly' £70k a week!

if mancini played people in there proper positions we would play better ie johnson on left swp on right but that would mean dropping bellamy who hasn,t had a good game for a while. never mind another season over lasted longer than normal, another summer of team building by mancini and we will try again next season . ctid

You fail to acknowledge something: he might have been given specific instructions from the manager. Don't forget he is coming off the subs bench. He might have been told not to track back. You don't know do you.

At the stage he came in against both rags and last night, I'm CERTAIN he was told to stay up. And rightly so as we were trying to win those games.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

I think it's more a lack of talent.
"Like all bullies, they've just found out that there is a much bigger guy in town, someone who is richer and more powerful than their worst nightmare. You mention Bellamy. Do you think Bellamy will be part of the squad next year ? I have a feeling he will be gone . Quite where, I don't know , but I can't help get the feeling that some of the players have been simply going through the motions recently.

the sour grapes and sulking going on at the mo is not befitting of City supporters imo

if anyone wants to vent their anger can i suggest giving your best slug at a concrete post..
that way you will have a couple of broken fingers for a while to remind you of the value of hitting out in frustration

the plus point for everyone else is you may not be able to type either
