Blues land Senior Cup

Postby Mark (Blue Army) » Thu May 06, 2010 10:31 pm

A week after signing a new contract with the Blues (above) Alex Tchuimeni-Nimley celebrated by firing the Blue second string to Senior Cup success at the Reebok.

Collecting an incisive and intelligent through ball from Abdi Ibrahim, the Liberian-born striker’s quicksilver feet were too much for Wanderers defence and he shifted the ball into the bottom corner from a dozen yards in the 17th minute. It proved the game's only goal.

Having managed to go all season away from home unbeaten in their league, the Blues were always confident of success although they were beaten on penalties by Wanderers in the qualifying games for this decider.

Andy Welsh’s side, packed with players under 21 years of age, looked sharp going forward all night. Tchuimeni-Nimley’s ten goals this season meant he claimed the central role in the a potent three-pronged attack flanked by David Ball on the right and Robbie Mak on the left, themselves no mean performers in the goal stakes.

With Ibrahim and Dedryck Boyata and Greg Cunningham behind them, three players with first team experience, City were the more likely side and dominated the second half only for Mak to hit the post and Ball to twice be thwarted by decent saves from the Bolton 'keeper.

There was one late scare for City when Wanderers hit the bar but the Blues were worthy winners.

City Team: Karius, Vidal, Cunningham, Kay, Boyata, Warbara, Ball, Ibrahim, Tchuimeni-Nimley, Tutte, Mak

Well in! Great job lads.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?
