Poll - Hart or Given?

I cannot see any of them putting up with being on the bench next season..Both brilliant and deserve regular game time.
I can either see one of them being loaned out again or sold on...I mite be wrong and would be great to keep them both.

Anyway.Who would you prefer in goal........Hart for me.

Thanks for sorting the poll out Slim ;-)

nah no way mate joe hart isn't all that. if he wasn't english you'd have heard fuck all about him this year. sure he's made some great saves, but with shay we've got a keeper who has been great for over a decade.

Add a poll mods!

I think Given is a better keeper at the moment and that had Joe been behind that defence this season we would have conceeded more and taken his confidence away.

That said, he has to come back and lets see who's better. Joe has the potential to be one of the very best and he's not TOO far away yet.

ill go out on a limb and say neither, if a truely top class keeper was available id buy one.

For the sake of the poll ill go with given, based on the fact hes experienced and one good season doesnt make a great keeper. Lots of keepers have had good loan spells, played for england and then struggled back at there big clubs eg foster and carson off top of my head.

Given if we can keep a hold of Joe by loaning him out again. I don't think there's much between them. Joe commands his box better and comes for more crosses, Shay is the better shot stopper. Shay just shaded it for me due having that bit more experience.

With another year under his belt Joe will be ready to take over.

Loan out Hart for one more season then i think he'll be ready to take over from Shay. Having said that, Hart will probably start next season in goal for us due to Shays injury so will Shay be able to get back in the team?

Given every day of the week. The pressure and the spot light at Man City is a millons times brighter than it is at Brum and I think this is part of the reason is has done well. He had no pressure on him what so ever and if you saw him at the start of his loan he made errors.

We had all this with Nicky Weaver when loads of people thought he was a world beater and sadly he wasn't. Hart needs to learn his trade and I think he needs to do that as understoody to Shay. If he comes back to City next season he will get game time as we will have far more games to play but he needs to be patient.

I do rate Joe i really do but I don't won't him being throw into the spotlight where he could make mistakes and affect his confidence in the long run. If he made mistakes cetain posters on here would crucify him like they do with most of our players. You only have to look across the road at what's happend to Ben Foster who is a decent keeper. Confidence shot to pieces.

I'd be happy with either, both have differing advantages, Given is the better keeper but Hart is improving at a phenominal rate.

I think the situation will decide who gets the City gig between the sticks.
If Given remains unready, then Hart gets the nod initially. If he does the job, he keeps the job. If he doesn't then back in comes Given. I think it is as simple as that.
Regarding pressure Sis, I think that is part of the job description and comes with the territory. If Foster failed to deal with it, it makes him a poor keeper. Keepers have to be technically good while under pressure. Joe has to be tested.

understoody? :D

They are being asked to do different jobs at the moment, Shay has a very good 10 in front of him and is called into action at max, half a dozen times a game, he has to be alert while doing nothing and be very quick to spark into action. Hart is on pretty much all the time, Birmingham may have done very well but he is constantly exposed and there is no surprise that he was named Goalkeeper of the Year and Birmingham have done as well as they have.

Whether Hart can do Shay's job is a matter I think for the early rounds of the Europa, League and FA Cups, we have enough games for them to both put to work next season.

Are we all 100% sure that he can deal with it hence me suggesting that we drip feed him into the team.......would hate for him to have a mare that he does not recover from. So many have gone this way.....Nicky Weever, Richard Wright, Scott Carson, Ben Foster to name a few.

I think that stabilty is the key for City next year which IMO has been part of the problem. We need a foundation at the back with a solid keeper (Given) and a solid back four. I think we if we sort our back line out then we wont be far away.

I think Joe has already been tested, we've been to penalties with him between the posts and he's shown his worth, plus he's had a fair amount of prem experience, I really think he will impress when it is his time.

prefer Hart, but totally agree with SoF.

the key thing City learn't this year is we have to keep quality back up for when it is needed.

i can see Joe coming back and depending upon Shay's recovery and then continued resilience then Shay taking the burden of the spotlight while Joe learns about that and what is expected of him. Hart could play all the Europa games to keep him happy and let him learn more about the expectations and pressure of the situation City are now in.

But there is plenty that can happen yet that might change everything.. if Joe goes to the WC and ends up playing or having to play what then ?

I think Weaver's initial problem was his lifestyle and when he sorted that out he was seriously injured...twice. I would leave Weaver to one side in that.
I would question whether Carson et al were actually spoiled.
My Mate was the best drummer I had ever seen. His teachers couldn't teach any more because he overtook tham...He couldn't cope with audiences. He was no good to any bands...Not spoilt but hadn't got the required temperament.
Goalkeepingh is all about temperament. If Carson and Foster fell at that Hurdle then they didn't have what it takes.
As Slim said...City will have more than enough games next season to facilitate bith keepers.
(that was facillitate not fellaciate)...:-)

Hart, but I would prefer a keepr who leaves his line to take high ones and clear danger. And neither Joe or Shay excel in this vital area.

Hart for me as he is the better all round keeper.
