ive always thought he has been one of the best midfielders in the world but if he were available you just know we'd pay well over the odds for him.

he wasnt looking his usual self this year at all (apart from the diving etc). id still take him but the price would have to be right. he's still a massive twat though.

Been saying it all season to the missus he had an off season but I reckon he will be back to normal after the WC so would be worth a gamble for us.

What drugs have you been taken this morning?? Do you not remember the likes of Gary Mason and Jeff Whitley playing in our midfield?? Are we really that big of a club now to turn our noses up at one of the greatest footballers of his generation.

We want have to worry about Stevie G anyway cause if he is going anywhere it will be Real. Really can't see him playing for another prem club and not one plying it's trade it the Europa League!!

Steven Gerrard is exactly the type of player that we are crying out for to be honest. Yes he is 29 years old but he still has at least another 3 years in him if not more.

He is the complete midfielder IMO and would be ideal to come as skipper as well.

Is he better than what we have? Yes

Would we have to pay over the odds for him? Yes .... but who cares, money is not an object for us

Absolutely. Once we have two of the best five midfielders in the world fannying around in our midfield, we can take a skip because someone is injury prone but until then, I'd take him. Just don't expect him to be quite the same player as around 2005. But still miles better than anything we have.

Mate, we should care when our near-unlimited funds go to teams in our league for who money is most certainly an object.

Liverpool don't have money, but there's no guarantee funds won't be made available for purchases directly from sale profits, to improve the immediate package available to a potential buyer. Who'd want to buy a big-money club outside of the transfer window once they've sold off their best assets? Due to the complexities of the club's owners not talking to one another, and the size of the club, negotiations are going to take a long, long time.

i dont rate anybody's chances of getting Ashley Young for £14-£16m, that valuation needs a reality check.

As for paying over the odds, we are City; we haven't won a carrott for over 30 plus years and we aren't peddling Champions League football. Untill we win anything we will be paying over the odds in wages and fees for almost every player we sign, thats the real world we are in.

Absolutely. If my memory serves me they forked out something like 10m to buy him from Watford. No chance whatsoever he'd be available to ANYONE for anything less than 25m. For us 30 or 35m maybe.

i reckon £25 mill would net us ashley young. i have no doubt he'd want to come here.
