...nothing (0, zip, sweet f.a) into improving the playing squad for next years campaign!

Well that's 6 points on the board for us already then :D

Doesn't bode well for the geordies though does it! I sort of feel sorry for them!

the squads better than wolves, westbrom, whoever comes up plus possibly wigan and hammers so they still have a chance imo. they still have a good enough team to stay up and makes sense imo..

Haha, lets hope we take 6pts off chelsea again AND 6pts off newcastle too this next season! :D

Also read the comments under the sky sports article i linked. The geordies reckon the squad they have now will stay up no worries.... hmmm i'm not so sure meself!

Hmm well lets have a think. In the goalkeeping, defending and midfield departments they are pretty solid, not great but solid. The huge problem for Newcastle that i can see is the forward line. Ameobi and Best will really struggle to do anything in the prem next season imo, this could relegate them regardless of the quality of the rest of the squad.

If a team goes down, then comes back up, do they still receive parachute paymnts?

No, but when you think about it, any team that comes up is guaranteed in the region of 30 mil in TV rights, greater money from sponsorship deals and the revenue/extra revenue they will get for crowds whilst in the Prem. Stick the 16 mil per year that they give you for parachute payments (16 mil for 2 years, then 8 mil for next to years = 48 mil) and you are looking to take a nice packet home if you don't go over the top with players and wages.

Is this why the likes of West Brom don't mind yo-yoing between the Prem and Championship?

It's even better than that, they have a 5 year plan to invest nothing! Coupled with some nonsense about bringing through great academy players ad holding on to them. The Geordie National Delusion is alive and well

I was thinking about this today, newcastle would be a decent place to send some players out on loan for experience, the likes of boyata, ibrahim etc

I seem to remember a club in similar financial trouble a few seasons ago. Having to sell it's best player to Chelsea just to survive & then bringing in scraps & free transfers desperately trying to stay in the Premier league.

I also remember the club's self appointed star player complaining about a lack of ambition & agitating & generally shit stirring until he got a transfer to a 'more ambitious', wealthier club. Deserting at the worst possible time.

How ironic that the the club he chose to desert to, is now utterly skint & facing an almost identical (but worse) situation to that which faced the 'unambitious' club at the time he chose to leave. Then to add to the irony, that very same 'unambitious' club now has the richest backer in the world & more ambition than anyone else.

How ya doin' Joey?

Lmfao.

Great post Ted.

Thanks Joey, without you, we'd never have tasted the lows.

To be fair, even if we'd live in parallel universe where Barton was not the knob he is, he wouldn't be anywhere near the club anymore anyway on football talent (or rather lack of it).

They are due a parachute drop payment aren't they?? Since they get one per year for so many years?? Surprised they not investing that into players.. Can't see why they not buying though the squad they on can't be on that high wages and with there capacity they should be able to pay some decent wages. They will probably get a few decent free transfers.. I hear Benjanis available..

Andy carrol and lovenkrands have been playing up front from what ive seen and i rate carroll he will get 10 goals i reckon. plus they have plenty of midfielders capable of scoring too.

I know this is wrong but i have a soft spot for joey barton, dont no what it is, would like to see him turn things around.
