Im pretty sure Given qualifies as homegrown by playing in England while 18-21

Imo it not only means that players such as Sylvinho, Vieira, Garrido, RSC etc seriously under threat but also homegrown players like Ned, Micah, Michael Johnson, even Weiss as we don't actually need all of them to fulfil the 'quota'.

If the squad is limited to 25 then it needs to be the best 25 we can get to fit in under the rules. Would that include our English fringe players?

As Slim pointed out in the other thread, it also means that the transfer value of Ned, Micah & Co increases (in theory but whether it works out in reality we'll have to see).

I think you can be over 21 but home-grown (ie SWP), or under 21 but foreign, and still count in the main 17.

Is this 100% defo? Seems a mental rule to me. Will destroy English clubs' European campaigns.

Given is def homegrown.

This whole "quota" system is alot of bollocks tbh.

How the fook are some teams gonna do it, i mean arsenal spring to mind straight away.

If it's a premier league quota system does it count for cups and Europe?

Almost all of Arsenal's players have been at the club from a young age so 90% of them count as 'home grown' even though they're not English/Welsh & wouldn't qualify to play for those national teams. Weiss, Mak, Boyata etc would be the same at City.

Ahh a good point that!

Could just be the 25man match day squad this counts too, in which case incomings and outgoings won't be hugely affected!

I think the uefa quota may be different again! Don't know about the cups.

It's not just a matchday squad, it can only be changed during transfer windows.

It's clear some players will have to go, homegrown or not.

Especially when Mancini has been talking about signing players (plural) - we could see a few going out the door to be honest.

I checked it out and he moved to Blackburn from Celtic when he was 18. I thought he was older when he moved to at first.

True, having 16 players who qualify as home-grown in my selected squad is pretty good going. The likes of Richards, Ireland, SWP and Nedum will be in demand from other premier league teams this window.

I wonder how this will also impact on forced sales and restrictions on new signings

Also wouldnt this contravene european employment laws?
