Theres a similar thread on Bluemoon at the moment, quite interesting and always good to reminis.
I'll start with Alan Balls decision to sell Flitcroft
Peter Reid not playing Clive Allen enough
Keegan falling out with Berkovic

Joe Royle signing players like George Weah? Or just packing a Premiership Squad with Defenders like Spencer Prior?
Ben Haim wasn't Hughes' finest moment, either.

Keegan signing Fowler over Pauleta.
Pauleta who went on to be top scorer in France for 4 or 5 seasons after we passed him up for Robbie... doh!

Pearce's first "big buy" Samaras
Taskkin's first "big buy" Jo
Hughes paying up for RSC since his ONE year career got Hughes the City job
Abu Dabi's first "big buy" Robinho
Mancini's buying of Vierra, oh wait he was free... and he did well with AJ.. jury still out.

Something I don't agree AT ALL.
A real statement of intent and showed City are again capable of signing big name players.
Not to mention how incredible it was to watch him at times last season!

Was Robinho not our Top Scorer in 08/09? Yes, he was solar powered at times and he's almost definitely not going to play for City again - but it was a welcoming gift from our new Owner that acted as a good publicity stunt, too.
Typical City to break the British Transfer Record yet no-one to give a toss when he leaves on loan after 18 months!

Reid selling Hendry and buying Vonk. From there began our decent.

bit unfair on Ball, don't think it was his choice, more a matter of the club's finances at the time,
Worst decision by far was Big Mal's decision to sell Barnes and Owen to West Brom and use the funds to help but Steve Daley.

hughes selling dunne i think is up there i think, treated him harshly and then got treated harshly, what goes around comes around...
Thats only a minor one though there have been some terrible ones over the years, swapping david white for rocastle i thought wasnt a great move, selling quinny to sunderland aswell.

Hughes not subbing Dunne against Hamburg last season, was clear to everyone what was going to happen.
Buying Jo- not sure who takes the biscuit for that one.
Alan Ball refusing to play Tony Coton. ( was it Alan Ball)
Mancini for not going at Man U and Arsenal esp the Arse. Could have been such a diff outcome.
Not really a managers decsion but letting Kevin Horlock go out the back door for me was not a great move by the club, the guy deserved a proper fairwell.

Allison or Swailes (depends who you believe) signing Steve Daley
Bond signing his son to replace Nicky Reid
Reid selling Hendry and keeping Steve Redmond who was a jobber at best. Reid also selling Michael Hughes and signing Rick the snail Holden.
Kendall selling Bishop and replacing him with Alan Harper
Keegan signing a team of OAP's (Seaman, Tarnat, Bosvelt)
Pearce signing Samaras and not Ashton
Hughes signing Tal Ben Haim
Hughes obsession and signing of Santa Cruz

Horlock deserved a proper send off, absolute legend here, scored some absolute screamers. I totally agree the club should have given him a good farewell.

James, I like him a lot as a player when he wants to play, and yes he was Top Scorer, but I think that is more because we have no one up front who could score. But you are only looking at 1/2 the equation. In the second season he was a crap primadonna and last I recall he was plying his trade with another club several thousand miles away.
I was not happy when he left because he is a real talent, but he mentally left long before he physically left. So to me it was a very poor first buy from the player usefulness stand piont. For PR and making a statement I will say it was a solid buy.

Not going for it when we had United on the ropes and we were at home.
I think we would have gone on to win our first trophy for a fucking age, had we gone for one more goal at Eastlands.
I'm just getting over it now.....

This.
I still get furious about this game, of all the games we didn't deserve to lose it was this one. Their goals were an own goal and a deflection. It took Quinninho to come running out of the tunnel to tell Bally we needed to score. We should and could have won. LFC players looked embarrassed to score and deflated by our plight. ANd we still didn't win. One of my lowest points as a blue.
Reid not playing Clive Allen. Though he may have had a personal issue, it really was annoying. Loads more I can't remember, but proabably the worst ever decisions of a lot of our managers, were to sign for us in the bloody first place and commit in writing to making us all suffer unduly. Steve Coppell take note.
