England's National Anthem/English Football Songs

Taken from the 'Ban the Flags' thread, I was wondering about your thoughts on Englands National Anthem. At present, us England'ers have to sing the UK National Anthem which is 'God Save Our Queen' whereas all the other nations have their own, even if not official.

Scotland - Flower of Scotland.
Wales - Land of my Fathers
N Ireland - Londonderry Air (with lyrics)

I was just wondering what your thoughts are on what should be the 'Official/Unofficial' Anthem for England, one that us England'ers can stand up, sing proud and loud, and not have to share with anyone else.

A few have been mentioned, Jerusalem, Land of Hope and Glory or even the Funky Gibbon. Not forgetting all the known Footie songs as Sven's mentioned below.

Anyone care to join in?

Can just imagine the atmosphere if we sang this!

Lyrics:

And did those feet in ancient time
Walk upon England's mountains green
And was the holy lamb of God
On England's pleasant pastures seen

And did the countenance divine
Shine forth upon our clouded hills
And was Jerusalem builded here
Among those dark Satanic mills

Bring me my bow of burning gold
Bring me my arrows of desire
Bring me my spears o'clouds unfold
Bring me my chariot of fire

I will not cease from mental fight
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand
'Til we have built Jerusalem
In England's green and pleasant land
'Til we have built Jerusalem
In England's green and pleasant land

England's green and pleasant land? Have you ever seen Wolverhampton?

Nah, stick with the UK anthem, providing we get to sing the bit about smashing the Scots.

It is irritating though that effectively there is Britain, plus Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland both in terms of anthem and government, but that's another argument.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is made up of seperate countries unified into one nation. God Save the Queen/King, reflects the shared unifying factor of the monarch.
It is the national anthem of all the British countries.

During the Commonwealth games, where the countries compete as different nations, England usually uses "Land of Hope and Glory"

What about when those separate countries play football, do the Sweaty Socks sing 'God Save the Queen'?

As England fans we really need to invent some better songs. It doesn't help with them cretins from sheffield with their trumpets doing fuck-all but the dambusters theme tune every ten minutes. They need shooting ffs.
