You only need a license for broadcasts received via an aerial - and detectors are set up specifically for aerials

Nope, nope and erm nope I don't have an aerial on my house and still need one! I have Fibre Optic Cable for my TV and gotta pay "the man" for a TV license so that's BS.

I would assume cable and satellite are included as 'aerials' from the point of view of detection - a signal transmitted from a source via a cable to the TV. The point still stands, if it isn't a broadcast you dont need a license for it (such as the online catchup services)

Thankyou for proving my point.
Do I need a licence?

The law says that anyone who uses a TV, or any other device, to receive TV signals, must buy a licence.

This includes video recorders, set-top boxes and DVD recorders.

You will also need a licence if you use your computer to watch live broadcasts.

Tvcatchup is live TV service so you need a TV license to view it.

Stop turning everything into a war you antagonistic cnut. If you watch Hollyoaks on 4 On Demand (god knows why anyone would) a day after it was broadcast it's no longer live and doesnt require a license.

...You only need a licence if you use your computer to watch programmes at the same time as they are being shown on TV...However, you are free to watch archived programmes or downloadable clips without a licence...
