Am I imagining things or did we see talk of some kind of co-operation agreement with Swindon Town a while ago with their manager coming up to Carrington for a workshop/look around. Obviously we have some history with the club due to Mike Summerbee (and Nicky) and quite nice to have picked up their one gem as a result!

Mancini Swoops for Henshall
England Youth international Alex Henshall has left Swindon to sign scholarship forms with Premiership big spenders Manchester City. After a year Henshall is expected to sign a professional deal.

In fairness, it was only a matter of time before the promising youngster would leave for the bright lights of the top flight.

What's most important for Town fans is 'what's in it for us?'. Well a transfer sum of £250,000 plus percentages and loan players are believed to be chairman Andrew Fitton's aim and, hopefully, final outcome.

Manchester United and Everton set to sign wonderkid after Chelsea ruled out of chase following transfer ban - MirrorFootball.co.uk

Chelsea’s transfer embargo will force them to miss out on Swindon wonder-kid Alex Henshall, clearing the way for Premier League rivals Manchester United and Everton.

Blues manager Carlo Ancelotti had lined up a move for England youth winger Henshall, 15, after he impressed in the prestigious Milk Cup tournament in Ireland.

Everton and United are now locked in a two-way battle.

Swindon youth boss Dave Byrne said: “No official bid has come in for Alex.

“The last thing we want is to sell a player who has been here since the age of eight but if he decides to leave that is up to Alex and his parents.”

He was named junior player of the tournament at the Milk Cup tournament in Ireland.

Sounds like a good talent but did Mancini really buy him or people in the Academy? My guess would be the latter.

Almost certainly the latter. The academy has become an entirely different entity than it was a few seasons ago.

May there be many more signings like this one. The long term aim has to be the kids, getting quality in at a young age and constantly improving the Academy. Great move City

Agree. Well done Academy

I'd love it if we could in the future play the kids in the cups like Arse. Without actually putting a poor side out there.

There's a thread in the transfer forum on Bluemoon with more info about the lad from those living around Swindon. They rate him very highly and more likely to succeed than others (for every Ched Evans there's a Joe Hart). Sounds like a very good prospect after reading it.
