Do we underestimate Gareth Barry?

The media are slowly making Barry a saviour to make the England midfield function better. Capello must value Barry's worth to the team or else he would've canned him as soon as he got his injury. I rate him but I notice quite a bit of criticsm at times over the season.

Do we underestimate what a 100% fit Barry with Mancini's chosen midfield could do next season? Is there more to his play than meets the eye?

I'm not a Barry nutswinger BTW. I just don't have the opportunity to get to live games anymore and don't see what the TV cameras miss. Just curious of the opinions.

I don't think we do I just think he cannot play well with De Jong as the game runs too slow for him. I think once we get an attacking midfielder of the Gerrard type he will come out a lot more for us.

We use De Jong in his best position - a mistake in my opinion

For england, he is rightly praised for what he does in that system. For City he has been largely shite and seems lost on the pitch

I dont underestimate him. As people said DeJong sort of occupies his space a bit and Bobby needs to sort this out. However sometimes he has come off the pitch doing a good job yet still gets subjected to attacks on here. A lot of people do not understand the deep midfield game.

Milner will be getting it soon. The knives are sharpening!

I've said this thousands of times, and you're 100% Correct.

I'd just like to add myself to this list.

Barry to replace De Jong, Proper playmaker to replace Barry -----> See us go to places.

De Jong and Barry don't seem to be a compatible pairing in the centre of the park. They either need one more with them or one needs to make way.

Barry had a great start with City, seemed to sink a bit following a hostile reception at Villa and then began to improve again towards the end of the season. Although his departure at Aston Villa didn't seem to cause a major problem on their form. They finished 6th again, made the Carling Cup Final and the FA Cup Semi Finals.

Yes

The only other option we had was Vieria or the out of form Ireland though in central midfield. And neither of those fellas were regulally fit.

As Niall says, it would be excellent to team Barry up with Gerrard in our midfield next season. Balance.

We might actually get a stable England pairing out of it too

I think Frank Lampard is one of the worst things that has ever happened to English football. He's even more of a one trick pony than Michael Owen.

Gerrard's decent (actually very good) at defending set pieces too - the more I think about it the more boxes he ticks.

Positve: Would be a great short term measure
Negative: Time is not on their side, we'd have to do it all again in a couple of years' time

I'd rather bring Ballack in on a free for the attacking role / link play, drop Barry back to do what De Jong should be doing, and fuck De Jong off back to Germany.

Ballack is 35? but if we intend to go for the likes of Silva/Gourcoff/Ozil in addition, he would be a fantastic player to have in the squad for the games where you need a bit more steel, and he scores.

Club football is better than International, therefore a player like Barry who isnt showing what he is worthy of is still worthy of playing in an international side.

I actually read this as a bit of sarcasm and you were having a laugh.
