At least he knows how to set up a team based on who they are playing against and the players seem to want to play for him.

England could do a lot worse.

I'd take him in a heart beat.

Having said that I'd have SgE back - you'd have never seen such a poor, disorganised, shambles of a performance as today when he was in charge.

Another plus would be that the press would stop sucking his plumbs and turn against him as soon as England started to play shite.

A win win as far as I'm concerned.

No the dodgy half wit would walk on his knees to FA headquarters to have the job................but isn't he being investigated for tax dodging issues.............that would cap it all..............England manager jailed!!!!

Here's the answer..Glenn Hoddle
Here's the answer...Kevin Keegan
Here's the answer..Sven Goran Erikkson
Here's the ansher..Shteve Mclaren
Here's the answer...Fabio Capello
Here's the answer..Harry redknapp

YOU CANNOT POLISH A TURD
Last man who did, or at least seemed to understand how to make it smell less(Venables) wasn't offered a new contract
But then, back in 1996 In my opinion, we had a squad with one or two creative players, and defenders who could DEFEND
What we are hoping for is a set of talented freaks to come through this faulty system of ours. Since the late 80's, we've produced two. Gascoigne and Rooney. 15 years apart. We do not produce players like mezut Ozil, and I wouldnt say he is top top level. He doesnt have to be to get into the England side. Get a player or two who can play people in and dictate a game intelligently you have a chance.

Rooney is nothing like Gascoigne. Gazza was genuinely one of the most naturally talented players I ever saw. I mean someone who could've genuinely be one of the all time greats. Rooney is a good player, nothing more nothing less. He is just ridiculously overhyped. He is at least three steps behind true greats of the game and will never reach those heights.

I'm not saying Rooney is like gascoigne NQDP. Different players. Forget all the hype surrounding Rooney, when he first arrived with Everton I saw the next pure natural talent following on from Gascoigne. For different reasons Gascoigne didn't fully fulfil his potential, but still had some good times. For pure talent, Rooney and Gascoigne are arguably the only two matchwinners English football has produced since I left school over 20 years ago. If they were both in the same team people wouldnt be questioning the system we have in place and questioning whether it serves the national team properly, but they arent and nothing much else in that area of the game has come through during this period. This isnt a new concept, people have been saying this since the seventies, but at least then you could say England managers overlooked flair players(because we had some then), now, we don't, and England, as a team, is crying out for that spark.

The biggest problem we have with football in this country, and the national squad in particular, is the British press.

They build up he hopes of the average man (or woman) on the street to crazy proportions, and then go mad when they turn out to be wrong. I said a couple of weeks ago that England had the worst squad in living memory and wouldn't amount to anything, it was easy to see for anybody with half a brain, but the media built it up that 'we' were going to win it and the muppets followed. Before we knew it the houses were adorned with the St George flag, every car had flags on it and suddenly everybody was a fucking expert on world football.

The media have a lot to answer for, the sooner we learn to ignore their bullshit the sooner we will realise that the likes of Terry and Rooney are jokers. They raise our hopes and expectations just so they can then mock us when it all goes wrong.

We need to learn to ignore these people and think for ourselves, had we done that it would have come as no surprise that r**ney scored no goals and terry is a useless prick who just watches the ball.

Don't believe the hype.

Don't worry Kev once they've chewed up England they'll find a new whipping boy....or should I say they'll refind the previous whipping boy...

What did the commentator say just before the third goal?

Something like "and Terry is marauding into the German box"... 10 seconds later, James is picking tha ball out of the net. He was responsible for all four goals. Thank god he's at Chelsea and not us

Might as well stick with Capello, provided he sees this disaster as an opportunity to start afresh. And I mean for him to decide for himself who he wants in the squad. The media haven't got a leg to stand on at the moment because practically all the players were woeful.

If he had dropped Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard, Terry etc at any time and England underperformed, Capello would have been ridiculed to Graham Taylor levels.

Now is the time for him to decide on his formations, who exactly will fit in and which rising stars can come through. He has every excuse at this point to dump pratically whoever he wants.

Candleface Redknapp would be a good pick I guess (at least because Spurs would crumble again), but it would only takes us so far and the cycle starts again. I'm sure he would just pick the same old players.

If Capello doesn't decide to do this, then the FA should get rid of him quick sharp.

I'd have Glenn Hoddle back in a heartbeat

Was a fucking idiotic decision to sack him over that comment re the disabled (which were ill advised but hardly sensible grounds to bin a very capable manager).

He's said that he's happy doing his academy but he is increasingly quoted in the media and I sense he is positioning himself for a return to management.

Bit of a cock in lots of ways but he was a decent England manager IMO.

That said, the shambles that was this campaign does make Sven look like a relative genius (especially considering his campaigns were conducted minus very key players (Rooney, Owen, Gerrard, Beckham etc))...and we all know the reality that he wasn't all that as a club manager.

i'm not sure i understand. I believe Sven was all that in his heyday as a club manager. Not at City, but...feel me?

cheers

I was saying, in simple terms

Sven was clearly no genius of a manager....as we saw in his time at City
Yet, the failure of Capello to muster his resources adequately and effectively in South Africa
Makes Sven's period as England manager
Look more impressive than it felt at the time
Esp as he really was missing key players in each one

Yes, Sven's real purple patch was club management in Italy....but his period managing England now doesn't look all that terrible for me
