Now that the so called "Golden Generation"have failed miserably again at a big Tournament what players do we have coming through the ranks that can give us hope for the future? Imo we have very few would be stars emerging perhaps AJ,Rodwell,Wilshire and maybe Delph.Thoughts guys.

I would throw Ashley Young in there and stick with Millner also. Such a shame Michael Johnson is so injury prone because if the lad got fit and playing he could have a chance.
I think Fabio if he stays he needs to rip it up and start again. He needs to start blooding Joe Hart for one. People keep harping on about experience, play the kid in the qualifiers and give him that experience so that he can go on for the next 10 years. The Germans yesterday had last years U21 keeper in their goal and he did ok, a bit nervy in parts but he is gaining valuable playing time at the highest level.

4 maximum 5 of those will be in the world cup squad in 4 years time, even less will actually be in the first 11

My point was even though i did not state it in my op is these kids wont get games because the top teams have to buy the best "percieved talent to stay at the top".So imo it's catch 22 the top kids get farmed out on loan to here there and everywhere but dont get experiance with the big boys and that leaves them behind imo.

How about our very own Joleon Lescott?
He's under 30 and I expect him to have a good season ahead of him. Capello used him before he got injured so I expect him to be in his plans for the future. Especially if Capello promotes Joe Hart, as they will already have a good rapport .

Its a tricky subject which affects us a lot!
The $64000 question is do you want to see a sucessful Manchester City side gain honours OR do you want to see the national side improve to the level of the current major players who realistically have a chance to lift the gold trophy?
Without a doubt the premiership as it stands does not encourage the emergence of potential England players because every club wants the best players it can get and that means scouring the planet for the best individual in each respective position on the field.
So if a promising kid from Gorton can be replaced by better from Peru then that's that and the promising local kid may see his career blossom at Stockport rather than City.
The game in this country is cut throat and good English lads have to fight it out with the best the rest of the world have to offer.
Personally, Although I'm a proud Englishman who would love to see the national team get somewhere (semi or even final or even win it) my allegience is to my club and if that means we win the premier league and then go on to take European honours I can handle the national team failing on a regular basis!
I apologise now to all promising young English footballers who may never have the chance to grow into future England internationals but we get the chance to qualify for major competitions every 2 years. City are far more important on a week to week basis and if i'm honest on a scale of 1 to 10 City come 10 and England come 1. Have sympathy for the good lads who 30 years ago would have made it but today look like becoming the stars of League 1.

So if they can't get a game here, why don't they go overseas? Simple.

Probably not, but I honestly think that a less egotistical team will at least have them performing, while I want us to do well, I would prefer to come away from a match thinking that we had 11 lions who left everything out on the pitch.

I don't buy into that best youngsters wouldn't make it. Of course they would. Cream always rise to the top. In fact I believe the half decent English lad coming through Academy will always get a chance before being shipped off with us. This mostly affects the average kids. They'll have to go to lesser teams. But that does not affect English national team. Did someone like Lee Croft not get chances? or Ishmael Miller?
Truth is, this was poor group of English players but another few new stars will be born in next few years trust me. Shelvey, if the reports are true, will be your next great playmaker.

Very surprising that nobody has mentioned Adam Johnson.

Having no 'stars' would be a right bonus imo, the sooner we have a team rather than a bunch of talented individuals the better.

Probably too young a team for anyone in the England heirachy to have the balls to go with but we have two years to plan for the Euros then a further two years before the next World Cup in Brazil, playing at altitude and in 100 degrees (Waste of time England turning up for that one) so the lads above could get plenty of experience.

That team would murder the team that played for England on Sunday afternoon.
