OK as we are only allowed to have 25 players over 21 years old n the squad, we are going to struggle. We have a 1st team squad of 39 including the 2 extra signings this week.

I have struggled to get us within the target also leaving us light up front, but I think I can see a few of those strikers leaving and a quality replacement coming in.

Didnt Italian Bob want to have a look at Guidetti in the preseason? No that he would count to the squad size anyway since he's a youngster.

I'm sure we wouldn't continue to buy players without the club having given it consideration.I'd be confident that the club has a way round this which has not been mentioned here yet. There must be some loophole somewhere which I'm sure the club is keeping to itself.

I am hoping mancini is doing the needful and getting the players in before telling the few players that he doesnt want that they are surplus to requirements

Yes but Boyata is only 19. So is Cunningham (always think of the Fonz!!!). So is Nimely. Vidal is 21 - is that in or out? Weiss is 20.

'Under 21s (or is it 21 or under?) dont count at all mate. So you can leave them out of your list and put them on a side list if you like, letting other players into the squad. That changes things completely.

However if we get who we want to get I really think you can forget about Ireland, maybe SWP, definitely Weiss.

Bellamy is regarded as a left-winger with us. So as frontline strikers we only have Tevez, Adebayor and Santa Cruz. I still feel RSC will be a City player unless we sign TWO forwards. It would be insanity going into a campaign with only 3, bearing in mind they all seem to attract problems!!

You can bet someone at the club has the job of working very hard on this with Mancini.

Sell/Loan: Logan, Etuhu, Bojinov, Jô and one of González/Nielsen. Sorted. We can even keep Robinho and there would be a place left! For every other signing get rid of an extra player. I don't see any problems, what's the panic?

Agreed and I don't think Ireland will be here come end of the window so thats another spot. He made it clear he don't want to be here.

Pointless. Bobbeh Manceh has already signed the aging cripple on for another season. Words can't express how much I despise his presence as a City player.

I guarentee he'll get more Football than he deserves.

I don't think RSC will be going any where as he will be on a very highly paid, long term contract which I doubt any person in their right mind would match.

Can someone clarify this for me. I thought originally (in line with Bob's post) that we were limited to a first team squad of registered senior players that was 25 strong.

BUT some things I have read in the media indicate that actually the limit applies to the squad that we would nominate pre-each match as to who is eligible for selection in that particular game.

I am, therefore, confused. Does anyone actually know what the rules are???

I did search for the rules but I couldn't find them anywhere - certainly not on the PL site.

However whilst browsing other clubs' TEAMTALK for a laugh a Chelsea bloke seemed to know a bit about it a while back. He reckoned you nominate at the end of each WINDOW, August and January, which would seem to make sense. Otherwise the rest of the August window would be nullified if you named a squad pre-season. Not sure of the truth though, because what DOES actually happen for the first few games? More football insanity.

In theory you can have 25 senior players and 200 under-21s to choose from!!

That's the thing.....one there is confusion as to what the rule is....second point for me is that...are we actually sure that this is actually in force for the coming season??? There has been a lot of talk about it in the media but I cannot recall having seen an actual official announcement by the PL or FA

PREMIERSHIP2010/11 REGULATIONS FOR SQUADS

A SQUAD LIMIT OF 25 PLAYERS.
Of these 25, at least 8 must be association trained. This means they spent at least 3 years between age 16 and 21 at a club in England or Wales.

UEFA COMPETIONS (EUROPA AND CHAMPIONS LEAGUE)
A SQUAD LIMIT OF 25
Same rules as premiership about 8 association trained, BUT IN ADDITION, of the 8 association trained players, at least 4 must have spent 3 years between age 17 and 21 at the club they are now playing for. So at least 4 must be from our academy.

The squads are declared at the beginning of the season and can only be changed once at the end of the January window, and I think a maximum of 3 changes are allowed.

PLUS
An unlimited number of under 21 club trained players can be used in both competitions in addition to the named squads (generally referred to as the B List). Under 21 on 1/1/10. This includes, but not limited to:-
Weiss
Boyata
Ibrahim
Cunningham
Ball
Tchuimeni-Nimely

CURRENT SQUAD – as of 3/7/10, but not for much longer
DMF----------------AMF-----------------STR-----------------F BACKS-----------C BACKS----------GK
Barry---------------SWP-----------------Tevez--------------Zabaleta-----------Boateng---------Given
De Jong------------A Johnson----------Adebayor----------Richards-----------K Toure----------Hart
Vieira---------------Silva----------------Bellamy------------Bridge--------------Lescott------ ---Gonzalez
Y Toure-------------M Johnson---------Robinho------------Garrido------------Kompany
---------------------Ireland-------------RSC-------------------------------------Onouha

Italic are club trained players (and by definition also association trained). Need 4 minimum
Bold are association trained players. Need enough to add to club trained and total 8, minimum

So, as of today, we are comfortably OK, (apart from having 26 on the list, not counting other loaned players - Jo, Bozhinov, Caicedo, Logan, Etuhu)

Clearly, several of the squad above are going to leave, but none of the players linked to join (except Milner) qualify under either quota.
To keep the 4 and the 8 quotas through this window will be a precarious balancing act. In fact, it messes with your mind.

You don’t need any club trained players for the Prem, so you could run with 1 or 2 only for the Prem and introduce more for Europa. But then you have to drop other players to keep the number at 25.
But surely it wouldn’t be feasible, when trying to get, say, Danny Alves to sign up, to have to admit, ‘by the way you won’t be playing in Europe because we need to give young Trippier a run out’.
Or who fancies telling, say, Tevez he’s dropped for Nimely, to get the numbers right?
Liverpool had to do this to Sammy Hyppia a few seasons ago exactly because of these UEFA regs and, naturally, he left asap.

For example, some possible ins and outs. You can mix and match them and change names at will
To get squad down to 25 - Onouha
Kolarov – Garrido
Milner – Robinho
Dzeko – RSC
Torres- Bellamy/Ireland. If Ireland, bring in Weiss to get back up to 4 academy trained and sell someone else to get back down to 25 again
Luiz – Bridge

Or take out M Johnson as he isn’t ready yet and add Weiss or Ibrahim who are available anyway as under 21s, so no gain to squad overall.

Last point, anyone can play in the FA Cup and Carling Cup. There are no squads to declare.

I'd have penalty kick contest. Those who fail to convert three or more will be shot immediately behind the goal. David Platt could do the honour. If I were RSC, I'd say goodbye to my family friends.

My only difference is i'd keep Nedum and let Richards go, we could get some decent cash for Richards and I belive he pushes forwards too much neglecting his primary responsibility leaving us exposed.

I was just playing around with this in light of the fact that we have to have a squad which is a maximum of 25 players strong (in respect of players over 21 years old).

From that 25, 8 must be homegrown (being "trained for three years under the age of 21 by somebody in the English and Welsh professional system")

We can then add to the 25 squad of "adults" as many U21s as we like (being that they had to be under 21 as at 1 January 2010 for the current season and they could be "homegrown" or imported)

So....my squad thus far looks like this

HOMEGROWN
Hart
Taylor
Lescott
Bridge
Barry
Richards
Ireland
A Johnson
Bellamy
(M Johnson)

IMPORTED
Given
Boateng
K Toure
Kompany
Zabaleta
Y Toure
De Jong
Silva
Vieira
Adebayor
Tevez
Santa Cruz

KIDS
Boyata
Cunningham
Weiss
Guidetti
Ibrahim
Nimely

So that gives us a "senior" squad of 22 players and three "spare" places for incoming players. As covered elsewhere, Balotelli coming would still leave three places as he is under 21.

It does assume that Nedum will be off, that Johnno will be included and that Robinho won't be returning (oh....and that we don't sell Santa Cruz!)

Interesting though as assuming we are definitely after at least one senior striker it shows that we have the space for two new players.....I'd say a left back should be one of them and I would love that real creative midfielder ....exciting either way though
