MAN CITY SPENDING SPREE KICKS ENGLAND IN THE TEETH

For one big reason why England fail so consistently at the World Cup and European Championship, look no further than Eastlands.

Manchester City have so far spent more than £60m this summer and all on more foreign imports.

Their outlay could be close to £200m by the time the new season starts.

No doubt City fans are excited and can’t wait for the richest club in the world to open their cheque book again.

Yet this is spending gone mad and to the detriment of the English national team.

After the debacle of South Africa the usual cry went up for the introduction of new English talent. Get some young players in to replace the tired old failures!

Where are they? Pushed to the back of the queue by clubs like City, who, it appears, have no interest in allowing home-grown talent to develop.

Take the deal that has persuaded Ivory Coast’s £25.5m midfielder Yaya Toure to leave Barcelona and head for the Premier League.

He didn’t want to quit Spanish football and even said one day he would like to return to the Nou Camp.

The deal thrown at Toure was just too good to turn down. Not surprising, is it, when you are offered a basic salary of £185,000 a week rising to £221,000.

Let’s get one thing straight here, Toure is not worth that kind of money. He is a good player, that’s all. Not a world-class talent and will certainly not be in the top ten players in English football next season.

So, why have City thrown the Crown Jewels at an okay player? I have no idea.

They have also signed David Silva from Valencia for £24m and Hamburg’s Jerome Boateng for £10.5m. We can only presume these players have only come for the money.

What City are buying are good players to take them to the next level and that is the top four of the Premier League. These are not players to help them win the title.

You wonder how much a week they would pay Fernando Torres or others who are regarded as the best? The mind boggles.

There is nothing wrong with ambition and yet we get it so wrong in this country.

Why can’t we develop our own talent and bring forward English players who might just help us win something in the future. City have got so many players that some will have to be sold.

Micah Richards, who needs guidance, is likely to be discarded and there is not even a guarantee Gareth Barry will get into City’s first choice side.

If you are a young Englishman looking up at City’s first team then your future is cloudy.

Does the game care? Sadly, only a minority.

The fans who turned on England after South Africa will soon be back to where their heart really belongs. Club football.

Ask a City fan what he or she would prefer over the next two years. Their club to win the Premier League with a side packed with foreign players or England to lift the European Championship?

There is only one answer, I’m afraid and it isn’t England.

The FA’s director of football Sir Trevor Brooking had to go cap in hand this week to persuade clubs to allow their Under 19 players to represent their country. How embarrassing is that. Shouldn’t this be compulsory?

English clubs were actually considering withdrawing their young talent from the European Championships tournament that could be vital to the future development of the national side.

Other nations would have encouraged their players of tomorrow to go and take part.

In the past two years Germany have won the European Championships at Under 17, Under 19 and Under 21 levels and that, I’m afraid, tells the story.

We only worry about the national side when tournaments are on top of us. When there is failure the outcry starts and nothing happens. It will be the same in two years’ time and beyond.

After what happened in South Africa, the England team is at rock bottom. We are a laughing stock. How many people care?

City supporters will not mind who wears the shirt next season just as long as they move higher.

Going the other way is the England team.

That could possibly be the most stupidest thing i have read from the media.
You couldn't make it up, every fucking thing we do is wrong. I really would like someone to tell me were all these top english footballers that are available to buy are hiding because i can't think of any that are available and are better then what we have brought in.

complete and utter cack. The reporter has conveniently overlooked Adam Johnson who we plucked from the championship, was the form winger and Capello didn't have the guts to take him.(he'd have gone if he was German). Besides the number of foreign players we've also signed Bridge, Barry, Taylor and Wright-Phillips as well as being linked with Milner. We've sent a number of players on loan so they can gain first team experience including Hart. As well as the 3 signings we've signed, we've also released Petrov, Benjani and sold Bojinov. Our current squad contains Hart, Richards, Bridge, Barry, SWP and Johnson who are all full internationals, 3 of whom have come through the ranks. There's probably only Spuds with more in their squad.

The reasons we were crap in the world cup are square pegs in round holes. Rooney being left on the pitch after doing little. No pace at the back. No pressure in midfield. capello sticking with tried and tested. Picking Heskey. Not picking AJ or Cole.
Balotelli......that's a brilliant finish.

I think Wooly has been drinking the mong juice today. The 1st comments on that article are an adequate response to his bull. But if he thought hard enough, he would realise that City hardly ever have England players due to preferences for Sky4 clubs. But let's break this down:

Current England WC Squad
Joe Hart - not picked to play but will have a chance from Sept.
Gareth Barry - carrying injury / loss of form
SWP - loss of form

Other players in contention
Wayne Bridge - we all know the reason he wasn't there
Joleon Lescott - injured but probably would have been chosen
Adam Johnson - cut from the 30 but will have a chance from Sept
Micah Richards - not City's fault he can't make the grade

Other players coming through / once had a chance
Michael Johnson - always injured
Nedum Onouha - injured a lot of the time
Daniel Sturridge - fucked off to Chelsea

England player to possibly be on our books
James Milner - is he worth it? Jury's out.

I might be missing someone but IMO that is a good number of players that City have that are there or there abouts. Probably more than ever. Why the hell doesn't Wooly/Daily Star direct their criticism towards the likes or Arsenal, Liverpool etc who have practically discarded England players apart from the odd one.

Load of bollocks. I really hate the media for no brain shit like this.

A very pathos filled article. All it's missing is a wailing violin in the background.

strange that he see's only US being at fault. Personnaly I dont see it that way. Imo he knows were an easy target, and decided to have a rant at US, in the hope others will follow. Well lets start with Englands u20s world championships squad in 2009 Brian, didnt City have 6 playes in that squad 5 of which started the opening game and Nimley on the bench. Its also a fact that had Lescott and Bridge been availible we would have had 5 players in the world cup squad. I couldnt care less what hacks thing anymore, and no longer get angry with such tripe. All I do care about, is our club, our players, and our fans.

Weird, especially when Arsenal's English players couldn't conjure up 38 league games between them, and not one of them made the world cup squad.

Its not bait Slim, the cunt believes what he's writing. If there was a world cup for journalism, we'd be out first round along with the pundits on ITV and the BBC.

I wonder, if we are so unconcerned about young English talent why are we trying to keep those same players from England u-19 duty. If we didn't give a shit about them we wouldn't be arsed if they got knackered up, surely.

I cannot belive City are being blamed ffs.

England were crap because:

1) Wrong squad selection.
2) Stubborn manager.
3) Wrong formation.
4) Players out of position.
5) Players not giving a flying fuck.
6) Talentless players.

Why don't the press realise that English players are just not good enough. The coaching skills over here are fuckin wank so it produces wank players. It has fuck-all to do with City.
