Man City 'have made bid for Fernando Torres' says Spurs boss Redknapp

Liverpool are already being forced to stave off interest from Manchester City in star striker Fernando Torres, Spurs manager Harry Redknapp has revealed.

The Tottenham boss is known to be casting his eye around the Premier League in a quest to improve his squad for next season's first foray into the Champions League.

He has been heavily linked with a move for ex-Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole, who is available on a free transfer.

But Redknapp has admitted he will not be making a move for Reds striker Torres - simply because he doesn't believe he can compete with the finances and stature of the clubs he claims are already making bids.

"Manchester City could quite easily win the Premier League. If they get the players in now, they've already got the nucleus of a good team," the 63-year-old told Talksport.

"They're in for Torres - and if they end up getting him and one or two others then they can do anything.

"It's going to make it even harder to make the top four again next season, that's for definite."

Spurs will begin their European qualification campaign next month, and Redknapp is certain to have signed at least one or two players to add to his existing squad before then.

The reason we haven't signed a striker yet is because Torres is first choice, and nothing is happening until after the WC. If he doesn't come then the Dzeko/Balotelli/Ibrahimovic sagas come to the fore!

Don't think 'Arry revealed too much tbh. Except to some of the dimmer Dippers fans.

Didn't Twitchy say that he enquired about Joe Cole and he wasn't for hire, 3 weeks later, he's seemingly at the the front of the pack to sign him.

I think he's a breath of thresh air and a real character mate, no hatred from me at all. He's a top bloke but I disagree that he would've done better under the circumstances.
