If he pulls those tricks playing for City i will be fuming.

There is only one player who is brave on that picture, the one who went in with his head.

I have to agree

The thing about the challenge for me is the fact that Nigel is a very bright guy and not one who appears to be too hotheaded. In light of that I actually think he knew exactly what he was doing with that high foot. It was meant to hurt and it was meant to intimidate. It was a cynical and very nasty piece of play.

He could have very easily been sent off and I cannot believe that he was mad enough to pull a stunt like that in a bloody world cup final??? I like De Jong immensely but that challenge placed some rather worrying question marks against him in my mind.

I have no problem with him being very (/overly) physical, nor do I have any particular issue with cynical challenges but it was bloody reckless to do that, so early on, in such an important game. Shades of Richard Dunne's judgement in that and that really does worry me.

Shades of Gascoigne in the 91 Cup final - both should have got red cards; how they stayed on the park is a mystery.

Shocking challenge, and agree with LAHAD that if he pulled that $hit whilst playing for us we'd all be fuming.

I just thought to myself thank god he did it for Holland and not City. Now he made that mistake hopefully he has learned from it and will come bad and never do it in a City shirt. Also a few attacking players might shit themselves now when they see him running at them this season.

Would anyone be fuming if he did it to Rooney (assuming it didn't cost us the game)

i see the bastards have ground you down too? it's like a pepper mill.

Come on now...it was one event. It's not like he has a history of truly barbaric play like that where he kicks fuclers in the chest. He made a horrible mistake. I guarantee you that it was not intentional. What kind of fucknut in the World Cup Final would dole that out to "intimidate"? He mistimed his kick and looked like a thug while doing it. Sad, but sometimes it happens. I can't believe even you now are suggesting he did it intentionally. Silly talk imho. He misjudges how fast Alonso is coming at him and thinks he can get his roundhouse kick into the ball before he arrives. Epic fail on his part. Shoulda been a red. End of story. We need to quit making more of this than it was.

cheers

Loved the OP but it's fucking ludicrous how much is being made of this. It deserved a red, sure, but you'll see a similarly dangerous and similarly high boot in every other game.

This type of challenge should be dealt with in the most severe manner......................Except when playing the Scum at the swamp when it should be rewarded with a medal , and a new long term contact with a substantial pay rise.(and a book publishing deal titled "THATS FOR YOU ROY" )
