Adebayor looking for top three finish

Emmanuel Adebayor is hoping that the long US Tour will help the Blues get out of the blocks quickly once the Premier League action begins.

Roberto Mancini’s men kick-off at fellow contenders Tottenham and then welcome Liverpool to the City of Manchester Stadium and Adebayor couldn’t be happier with the fixture computer’s work.

He reckons the pair of matches offers the perfect opportunity for the Blues to lay down a marker that will grab the attention of the rest of the league.

“It is a difficult start to the season but it is good for us in the sense that we can send a message out,” reckoned the Togo star who became a father for the first time during the summer.

“The start to the season is very important in many ways. If we go to Tottenham and get a good result and then do the same against Liverpool it will be great for the confidence and show the guys that we are title contenders.

"Fifth place last season was ok but we
want to do better than that this time
and we are looking for the top three"

"If we are going to win the title we should not be concerned about how the fixtures fall.”

Adebayor believes that the togetherness gained from being on the road for the best part of three weeks could also be one of the keys to a fast start.

“It is a perfect chance for us to get some hard work done as a group and we have some great facilities in the United States,” he declared.

“The facilities we have at the Nike HQ in Portland are spectacular and we have some exciting games against big teams whilst we are in the United States. There is great anticipation over the coming season.”

Watch out for a full interview with Adebayor in which he talks about the World Cup and its legacy, his baby, and the competition for places at the club to be shown later today on cityTV.
