ant london wrote:The New York Red Bulls have signed Thierry Henry from Barcelona on a "multi-year contract", the Major League Soccer club have confirmed.
The 32-year-old former Arsenal captain moved to the Nou Camp in 2007 and had one year remaining on his Barca contract, but the club agreed last month that he could leave.
"Red Bull New York announced today that it has signed star French forward Thierry Henry to a multi-year contract as its second designated player," the club said in a statement on their website.
He is expected to make his debut on July 22 against Tottenham at Red Bull Arena.
The statement continued: "Henry, a World Cup, European Championship and UEFA Champions League winner, will be available for selection for New York pending receipt of his international transfer certificate and after the July 15 international transfer window.
"His debut for the Red Bulls is expected to be on July 22 against English Premiership club, Tottenham Hotspur, in the Barclays New York Challenge at Red Bull Arena."
Henry will be introduced at a press conference on Thursday at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey at 1315 local time (1815 BST).
The Frenchman is relishing the challenge ahead.
"This marks an exciting new chapter in my career and life," said Henry.
"It is an honour to play for the New York Red Bulls. I am fully aware of the team's history and my sole goal during my time here is to help win the club its first championship.
"Knowing Red Bull's significant commitment to soccer locally and internationally, I am confident that my team-mates and I will succeed."

where are you coming from?
the PATH - which is a subway that goes from New York to New Jersey - i think there are stops relatively close to Times Square - and then a stop on Christopher Street in Grenich Village (which i really wouldnt recommend getting on or off at unless you want to be hit on by hundreds of freakishly gay men) but then in Hoboken, Newark and wherever the R*d Bull stadium is at.
I think there are some more stops along the route too.
But I will be getting on at Hoboken, and I think its only about a ten minute subway ride from there.

Re. transport, yes it's the PATH, from mid town take the yellow line from 33rd Street or 23rd Street & 6th Avenue and change at Journal Square then the red line to Harrison. As for saying you'll be set on by "freakishly gay men" if you get off the train in Greenwich Village, gay guys are no more predatory than straight so don't talk daft, though it's true you might confuse a few if your t-shirt says "Man City."

Sounds a bit complicated.
Theres a piece about the Mad Hatter pub (saloon) in NY in the Manchester Evening News website that says there are double decker buses organised to take the City supporters to the game.

There's no way I'll make it there on that subway.
[border]Now the news that City are coming to town has the Mad Hatter agog with excitement, and the Blues plan to help the bar with a series of events.
Mike Summerbee is expected to be guest of honour at a welcome party on Wednesday, with rumours abounding that Shaun Goater may also fly in from his home in Bermuda.
On Friday, when City face Sporting Lisbon, and again on Sunday, for the match against New York Red Bulls the club are laying on three double decker buses to relay fans from the bar to the downtown train station for the trips to the Red Bull Arena.
The bar is also offering discounted tickets for those matches, and for the Inter Milan clash in Baltimore, 20 dollars cheaper than elsewhere.[/border]
