help wanted - City v. Sporting Lisbon in New York

To any City supporters near New York.
I didn't think I could get to City's games at the R*d Bulls arena. but not only can i make it now but yesterday the missus, having watched the World Cup final on Sunday, said for the first time "hey, maybe if you're going to see your team play when they're over here I might come with you." This is a bit of a surprise and she's not going to stand up and sing Blue Moon but still it might be fun. So I want to ask anyone who's going, is there a particular section or block of the stadium that a lot of City supporters are gathering in? She doesn't much want to sit behind the goals but apart from that, where should we get tickets for? Don't have to do it cheaply but don't want to be sitting with a lot of empty seats around us, either. Lots of Portuguese folks in New Jersey so expecting a big turnout from Lisbon fans, hope MCFC at least equal their numbers.
Ta.

i believe i'm sitting in the top tier near the middle of the pitch. i just bought what i thought were the best tickets available...i like to be high up so i can see the whole spread of the pitch tho from a nice angle. I have no idea what sections they might have withheld for City fans. WHen i ordered on the phone the gurl seemed to not know anything about it so i didnt press more and just got some seats. I would call in tho and talk to someone on the phone and ask them.

cheers

as of a few days ago, i mate of mine had a few extras to sell.
i think he was asking face value ($58USD) and they are 7 rows up in midfield.

i am 3 rows off the field around the 18 yard line- i get what Doomie is saying about watching the whole field, i just want to be able to yell at the players. (and get some boss pictures to post up here)

The New York Red Bulls have signed Thierry Henry from Barcelona on a "multi-year contract", the Major League Soccer club have confirmed.

The 32-year-old former Arsenal captain moved to the Nou Camp in 2007 and had one year remaining on his Barca contract, but the club agreed last month that he could leave.

"Red Bull New York announced today that it has signed star French forward Thierry Henry to a multi-year contract as its second designated player," the club said in a statement on their website.

He is expected to make his debut on July 22 against Tottenham at Red Bull Arena.

The statement continued: "Henry, a World Cup, European Championship and UEFA Champions League winner, will be available for selection for New York pending receipt of his international transfer certificate and after the July 15 international transfer window.

"His debut for the Red Bulls is expected to be on July 22 against English Premiership club, Tottenham Hotspur, in the Barclays New York Challenge at Red Bull Arena."

Henry will be introduced at a press conference on Thursday at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey at 1315 local time (1815 BST).

The Frenchman is relishing the challenge ahead.

"This marks an exciting new chapter in my career and life," said Henry.

"It is an honour to play for the New York Red Bulls. I am fully aware of the team's history and my sole goal during my time here is to help win the club its first championship.

"Knowing Red Bull's significant commitment to soccer locally and internationally, I am confident that my team-mates and I will succeed."

As much as I hate Henry (I'm Irish) I also am a season ticket holder at New York so I am pretty happy about this. Can't wait to see Henry in MLS.

Check out the Madhatters Saloon bar web site in Manhattan. They are organising some stuff for City fans. It's the City home in NYC.
They will be able to give you tips etc about the games, getting to the games and about events for City fans during the stay.

check out http://www.madhattersaloonnyc.com

I know jonesy over there has been running around like a blue arsed fly organising stuff.

Might be worth a check ..

where are you coming from?

the PATH - which is a subway that goes from New York to New Jersey - i think there are stops relatively close to Times Square - and then a stop on Christopher Street in Grenich Village (which i really wouldnt recommend getting on or off at unless you want to be hit on by hundreds of freakishly gay men) but then in Hoboken, Newark and wherever the R*d Bull stadium is at.
I think there are some more stops along the route too.
But I will be getting on at Hoboken, and I think its only about a thirty minute subway ride from there.

Thanks for the info on tickets, getting sorted. Re. transport, yes it's the PATH, from mid town take the yellow line from 33rd Street or 23rd Street & 6th Avenue and change at Journal Square then the red line to Harrison. As for saying you'll be set on by "freakishly gay men" if you get off the train in Greenwich Village, gay guys are no more predatory than straight so don't talk daft, though it's true you might confuse a few if your t-shirt says "Man City."

Sounds a bit complicated.

Theres a piece about the Mad Hatter pub (saloon) in NY in the Manchester Evening News website that says there are double decker buses organised to take the City supporters to the game.

Heres part of the article Lookmum. Sounds fun.

The full thing is here.

[border]Now the news that City are coming to town has the Mad Hatter agog with excitement, and the Blues plan to help the bar with a series of events.

Mike Summerbee is expected to be guest of honour at a welcome party on Wednesday, with rumours abounding that Shaun Goater may also fly in from his home in Bermuda.

On Friday, when City face Sporting Lisbon, and again on Sunday, for the match against New York Red Bulls the club are laying on three double decker buses to relay fans from the bar to the downtown train station for the trips to the Red Bull Arena.

The bar is also offering discounted tickets for those matches, and for the Inter Milan clash in Baltimore, 20 dollars cheaper than elsewhere.[/border]
