underperformance 09/10 ?

Who thinks that we underperformed last season, both some players and the team as a whole?

seeing the new signings come in it has started to make me think that last season we may have significantly underperformed.
the obvious reasons are
- defence was new and never got a run of games
- Barry had a big dip in form
- Bridge never got going ( and is a better player than he showed )
- Ade had a bad season and never settled in
- Tevez took a while getting up to speed
- Ireland didn't show up and as a result we lacked a creative mid all season
- swp form dropped as the season went on
- the club swapped managers half way through the season - there was a price for that whatever way you look at it.

There is proabably no such thing or extremely rare as a perfect season, but if you just take out one.. two or three of those factors.. in fact pick and mix those you prefer and see the difference you feel it would have made

- established defence was together for the majority of games
- Barry had a solid consistent season
- Bridge showed his best
- Ade settled in and got on with it
- Tevez hit the ground running
- Ireland had a solid season as creative mid occasionally running the show
- swp held his form together for most of the season
- everything was good pre-season and one manager ironed out the creases with the new boys.

im thinking this cos if we have the same shit happen this season but with the extra of the new boys we will still do well. But if we dont have all these things happen again to this level with key players ( i know there will be other things ) , then we might see what we can do if we dont underperform as a team and the extra of the new signings.
I hope Chelsea are watching.

I think we did ok considering we changed managers in the middle of the season with a team that barely knew each other.

Unfortunately, the potential is there again for us to have dodgy spells this season with all the new players we may have trying to learn each other's games. If we're lucky or just have too fucking much quality we may well get away with it though. In that case, as we've got even better players than last season, we'll scare the living shit out of everybody.

I can remember a manager though, who broke all the transfer records, filled the team with stars, lost 5-1 to a City outfit full of kids & finished in the bottom part of the league. Ferguson I think his name was..

Ha ha!

but even if we trot out with the same team as last season give or take to start with, bobby can try and integrate the new signings as they seem ready. Id be surprised if all our new signings started in the first game.

Hard one to call. We don't know how many are leaving yet, or who it will be.

we still dont know who else is going to turn up!

i cant see too many major players form last season leaving, whatever the press are trying to make out. Bobby is not going to leave himself short and doesn't need to sell for money, so with the agenda the club have i cant see anyone arguing the need to take chances, and who the fuck apart form Robson is going to want to leave when the best chance they have of winning something and bagging medals is right where they are.

We finished only 3pts short of a Cl place. A tremendous season considering the huge number of personnel changes. Our failures tended to be against the poorer clubs rather than the top clubs, which I feel is easier to rectify than if we were some way off the old elite group.
I fear no team next season. We will have our silly dropped points and win some we don't expect to but all in all, we have every reason to believe we have the tools to do the job asked.
Can't wait for the season to kick off.
