SWP ready for action

Postby Mark (Blue Army) » Tue Jul 20, 2010 2:56 am

Shaun Wright-Phillips bounced into Portland last night with a huge smile on his face and determination in his heart.

The Blues star has been kicking his heels in Los Angeles after a break following World Cup duties in South Africa and whilst he admits the disappointment of not going further in the competition has still to fully subside, he is ready for some intense training in the run up to the start of the season.

“This isn’t work for me it is pleasure;” he said while liberally distributing hugs to his teammates as he prepared for his first Portland gymnasium session.

“It was disappointing what happened in the summer at the World Cup but now it is time get the head down, pull on the boots and get on with it again.

"My only focus is to get on the pitch
and do my thing. I am delighted to be
back with the lads and straight into the
craic and the banter"

“At the end of the day playing football is all about enjoying yourself and if you cannot do that you will never be happy.

“I was in LA for a while being well looked after and now I am ready to go. There’s not one problem and I am looking forward to playing again.”

Wright-Phillips was joined on the training field at Nike/Umbro HQ in Portland by skipper Kolo Toure who had a tortuous journey from Africa.

England midfielder Gareth Barry is set to make his return in New York later in the week when new signing from Barcelona Yaya Toure, Kolo’s brother, will meet his new teammates.

If I was a betting man I would put a bet that, despite DeJong and Silva being involved in the final, the last man to show up will be one Carlos Tevez!

This report along with Micah's blog entry seem to indicate SWP's attitude is spot on and he is determined to fight for a place in the team rather than sulk off to some mid table side that will guarantee him a starting spot.

I really hope we see the best of him this season (and beyond) and would love him to end his career achieving success with us.

I prefer to think of him as java man rather than an actual ape man.

Cheers

I agree. But the Argie press is forever suggesting he spends his time more with ladies of the showbizz world than Mars bars!

Good lad, if he's filling his boots and enjoying it!

I think the great Peter Crouch quote could very well equally apply to Carlos

Interviewer: "Peter, what do you think you'd have been if you hadn't become a footballer"

Crouch: "A virgin most probably"

haha

I heard the stories of Carlos and the "ladies of the showbizz world" but the mention of Mars bars went over my head. To go off at a tangent, those of you of the '60s rock generation might remember what Mick Jagger allegedly did with a Mars bar one fine night.

(on Tevez not being the most enthusiastic trainer)

"Carlos will still do his own thing. He will still have a bottle of Coke or a Mars Bar occasionally! But it's fine because of all the work he is getting through in matches."
