Do You Have Faith In Robert Mancini?

Thinking about the end of last season and the disappointment for many of not making the Champions League, I was just wondering what peoples thoughts were on our manager? When you think about it, there were many who established a firm 'I want Top 4 and a good Cup run', yet the only thing we realistically achieved was a semi-final in the least desireable cup.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not having a go at Mancio in any way as I thought it was a big ask when he took over, however, with the addition of the current crop of quality signings and the potential reported acquisitions, then we should have a squad to rival all, bar none, and it's going to be a matter of Mancio to mold these new players into a winning side; let's face it, it's not all about the players. And if he/we fail, we will literally hear the knives being sharpened by the Fleet Street mob and the media we aim to conquer, making it very hard for us to achieve our goal - World Domination.

So, 'Has he got what it takes?'

Personally I think he has and although I believe he is going to have a 'Mourinho-esque' type of approach, I will be happy to see us, and him, succeed.

Serious question then, and no Poll required, 'Do You Have Faith In Robert Mancini?'.

I think, maybe wrongly, that given time he will develop a much more attacking style than what we saw last season. And in answer to the question ...... yes.

Just having an e mail conversation with a m8 on the very same subject , He Is a no and I am a yes , He does not believe in the influx of foriegn players we have and are linked with being able to cut It in the prem , And does not think Bobby is strong enough to handle the dressing room if things start to go tits up With having such a talented squad people not gettin game time etc etc , , Especially with Bellers and the other home grown lads,

I think he desperatley wants to succeed and wont take any crap from anyone , I know they all want to play and I think he will pick each team as the opposition dictates so with rotation I see the whole squad getting a lot of games . And like Beefy says If he succeeds so do we,

I have complete faith in Bobby Manc and have done from the moment he took charge, I think he struggled to get to grips with the premier league in the first few months and truly believe that Everton game scared Mancini, that was the start of the uber defensive formations and performances that earned him a lot of criticism for the period shortly after.

Towards the end of the season, I think our performances improved and we started to look quite consistent. With the players that we have already signed, and the players that we are rumoured to be on the verge of signing, we will probably have the best squad in the premier league, and a manager who has handle the big players before, and who has won plenty in his career as manager. He will have had the pre-season to prime the squad and have them fully prepared for the start of what is sure to be one of the best seasons we have ever had.

I also think that with the players we will have at our disposal come the start of the season, Mancini will be in a position to utilise alternative formations that may hopefully give us more of that killer edge that we have all been craving. We already know from the portland game that we have tried out three different systems, and this only fills me with more confidence because it shows his willingness and ability to change his game plan during a match and get the desired outcome.

So because of the above, he has my complete faith.

i think your mate is underestimating Mancini there.

i would cut across this argument anyway, as i am not sure that the circumstances of the half season gave us that much to go on.
point being the assumption now that Bobby is defensive and will adopt a JM style. I dont see that what we have seen is good evidence for that. but then i dont think what we have seen is good evidence for anything.

Why was pre-season so important to Mancini.. he kept saying it over and over. Normally managers in the UK dont mention it much at all.. certainly not as in, it is very important. could it be that it is because he wants to play with the tactics and had no time to go anywhere near it when he dropped into what is normally an emergency situation, replacing a manager mid season.

So im afraid we will have to wait and see. There is though very little evidence for City fans not to have faith in Bob so far.

Personally for reasons i cant pin down, i think he will be a lot more attacking than people fear, also he may well make City very entertaining to watch.. for reasons based on what we reading into the 'being able to switch formations on the fly'. If that tactic has the right personnel and training and works, we could see City twisting oppos in knots

I am a believer - certainly would want him much much more than Jose - who is seen as a top manager - so must have faith

I have faith in him yes. I don't even care if he signs Landon Donovan! (I don't think we will but he was excellent v us last season so I could understand why Mancini may be impressed) I'm really impressed with the players he's signed, & trying to sign, even though they're not all the exact ones I would choose, they're all real top players. They have many of the attributes that I think we're missing & seem to 'tick the right boxes' (as Cook would say).

I like the look of the systems he was using v Portland & I like the fact that he thinks he can handle players like Balotelli & isn't scared to take on the responsiblity. I just hope he sticks with Bellamy & takes that situation on too, I think he will.

I think he made a fair few mistakes last season & will probably make a few more this season but all managers do & he'll have such a strong squad it should be possible to ride through it.

My worst fear last season was his over cautious approach but the new signings he's made suggest that won't be the case this season.

I do, but as everyone know, I'm very fickle and will be on his throat immediately if we lose a few on the trot.

A bit of a cop out.

I suppose that the disappointment at the end of last season was compounded by how close we came to finishing fourth.

Spurs finished 3pts ahead with a worse goal difference and beat Arsenal, Chelsea and us in the run in. Lose any one of those three and the positions are reversed.

I get the impression Bobby has a clear idea of how he wants us to play. We will have a stronger squad, and hopefully, be better able to put his ideas into practice.

If he has the right strategy and tactics and can get the best out of the players then we/he'll succeed. Results will decide.

We definately need to improve against Spurs, Everton and the Cousins.

So far I'm positive.

the signings are a truer reflection of his attitude than what he reverted to after the Goodison scare imo.

First game of the season will tell us quite a bit as to his temprament. I would expect him to be on the cautious side. but if he is confident enough after pre-season we may well all be surprised in the first game, even though it is at WHL

Tbh I'm not going to be making any judgements on Mancini's or the team's abilities until well into the season. Getting new players to gel sometimes doesn't work for a long time so I'll reserve judgement until we've had chance to see the ups & downs that the season brings.

Does anyone think that we will enough in midfield to not just stop teams like the spuds and Everton but to beat them. I know we have the fire power to score but we god pushed about a lot in a few games and you could see it rattled the team and allowed them to be openend up.
I do truely hope that Mancini sorts things out and i for one can't bloody wait for it to all to get going.

Yes, i think now he's putting he's own team together i think we can look forward to a successful season. I do believe we will win a cup this year the man is a winner and now that he has a full season ahead of him i think we will see that.

We could put out the biggest nastiest, toughest tackling midfield in the Prem if we wanted & most different blends depending what we want. It's about learning which one works best for each job.

I think for those games I can see us having 5 in midfield, and we could go with Barry on the left, Yaya, De Jong, Vieira across the middle, with milner (if he signs) on the right. That midfield is good enough for going for defending, and has the ability to make chances going forward too.

Some great replies and I'd say the majority are pretty confident in Mancio, however, I have picked yours to reply to Ted because I've just popped out and was listening to TalkSport in the car. I'm not sure who was on (think it was Saggers and Custis) and they were quite complimentary of us but expressed a concern that due to the large squad and the ego's that come with it, then Mancio may have problems. A Spuds fan then phoned in slating the signings and hoped that come the start of the season, our team will be found out (Spuds, Dippers and Sunderland) and our Empire will fall down around our ears.

Now, it maybe the 'Typical City' tag that makes me a little concerned that all this may just go that way and that the team takes a long time to bond, making it very hard for Mancio to do his job in a reasonable and sensible manner. If we do get off to an indifferent start, the pressure is going to be heaped on us, and if it continues, will we be back to square one with the manager?
