Roberto Mancini last night revealed that the Blues are ‘99% certain’ to sign Aleksandar Kolarov from Lazio.
And the manager confirmed too that the arrival of the Serbian World Cup star does not mean the end of the road at the club for Wayne Bridge.

“I want two top class players for each position,” he declared in the wake of the opening 2-0 defeat to Sporting Lisbon in the Barclays New York Challenge.

Twenty-four-year-old Kolarov has been granted a work permit but has yet to have a medical, the transfer could go though on Monday.

Mancini has been tracking the versatile left sided player for some time.

“I first saw Kolarov in his Lazio debut back in 2007,” revealed the manager.

I was impressed by the speed and strength of someone so young

...Roberto Mancini on Kolarov...

He was composed on the ball had an excellent delivery with his left foot and was technically very able.

“I have watched him a lot since then and so have the Manchester City scouts. His attacking capability is very good. He is fast and can shoot with power and accuracy.

“He also has the ability to play in numerous positions and is very good in midfield. This is an additional benefit to the team. He has a fantastic international career ahead of him. I am looking forward to working with him.”

It sounds like Bobby has done his homework here, as he should, and really wanted his man.

I haven't seen a great deal of him but I have a colleague at work who is a season ticket holder at AC and a bit of an Italian football expert. He reckons that even at £15 Mil, this is a bargain and one of our best buys.

Sounds look a very very beneficial signing for us. Can't wait to see him in action. Hopefully he can defend as well as he attacks...

Well if Roberto wants two top players in every position, he should get another left back. He can then sell Bridge to Liverpool that would have effect of taking money off them ,thereby making them financially weaker and weaker on the field ! Could be a great move for us. bridge and Cole alongside an ageing Gerrard at Liverpool !

Pretty much yep.

I've no vendetta against Bridge (and the last year can't have been the easiest for him), but I just don't see what he brings to the team. He can't cross (as KK pointed out - none of 40-something crosses met a City player last season) and he pretty much doesn't tackle.

Lets face facts, Bridge is a liability in the defence and just not good enough, glad RM can see it and has sorted out the problem

Although it's 99% done, and actually a full story on the OS, as there is still 1% chance remaining you run the risk of NQDP classifying this as a rumour, and merging it with the rumour thread!

i wouldn't get your hopes up lads, i have it on good authority - if you really want to know, my sisters brother - that Kolarov is already earmarked for a swap deal for Thierry Henry. I have almost seen the contract.

SSN are running the story however the footage does show him missing a free kick and getting sent off none of the goals or any of the attributes we`re actually buying him for...Funny.

Has to be some bitter jealous rag putting the footage together, it is getting funny at this stage.

Sky are depicting teams in their own inimitable way.

Who's who?

Kolarov had more shots on goal last season than Jo has had in his entire career, and that is a FAKT.

Sky sources are now officially confirming that they believe Kolarov has signed a five year deal.

Usual SSN reporting - 'Undisclosed fee Rumoured to be 19 million which represents great business for Lazio club who only bought him for a button and a packet of peanuts'.

You've gotta love the way that 'Sky Sources' take the praise for finding it out, and not that it was someone reading the OS.

Well Sky, it's also Rumoured that you are a load of Scum Noshing Rim Licking Bastards, but eh, it's only a rumour!
