Ok, you are making assumptions (Mario Balotelli)... but if Robinho is still our property he will be in 25 man squad, and MJ would be if he were fit by next month which he won't. I do agree with what you said otherwise.

Whatever is anybodies squad for the season, 25 is plenty.The big clubs who have plenty of competitions to take part in manage with an average of about 29 players.And being able to in theory change the whole squad in January(although it is unlikely)enables us to have as many players as we can afford and thats hardly an issue.Personnally I don't think the squad limit is any reason for anybody to get their knickers in a twist.

Now I STILL don't get the ruling properly. Correct me if I'm wrong: We will need to have eight players who are EITHER homegrown OR Under 21 in squad. Added to those 25 players we can supplement squad AS MUCH AS WE WANT with players under the age of 21. Regardless of nationality.

So basically, if we sign Balotelli for example, he wouldn't (have) to be counted on those 25 players for next two seasons as he is still only 19!

Furthermore, players like Vladimir Weiss and Boyata will NOT be left out BUT they will compliment the 25 player squad ie we'd actually have squad of 28 players with Weiss, Boyata and Balotelli.

I am little confused with your interpretation of 'home grown'. For example, I wouldn't have thought Stuart Taylor was 'home grown'....where as I would have thought that stephen Ireland was 'home grown'. I'm confused!!

They are BOTH homegrown. As is any player trained for three years before the age of 21 in either England or Wales. Given doesn't qualify by few months. In future, players like Boyata and Weiss will be homegrown as well despite their nationality.

See, this is the confusing bit, in league they don't have to be, in Europe they DO have to be!

I agree with OP except that Milner or an alternative will be in instead of maybe Ned or Ireland (remember Komps, Kolarov and Zaba can all play midfield). Bellers is definitely a left midfielder now, so 4 strikers. RSC might be replaced by Torres though.

Otherwise it just goes to show our squad is actually about the right size, despite all the media hysteria.

All those left out aren't good enough, even if they will be one day.

Another question - does this squad business all go out the window for FA Cup and League Cup? I guess it does otherwise Wenger would shoot himself.

See, this is the confusing bit, in league they don't have to be, in Europe they DO have to be!

So, if we bought Milner.......I guess Balotelli would drop out of the list above and he can come in at anytime as he is under 21, as you have already stated, but if (and it's a BIG if) we happened to get Torres too, then someone else needs to drop out of the above list.

I don't see M Johnson getting in the 25 as i don't think he will be fit, we can't waste a place on him. Also if Robinho stays he will be in the 25

Havent seen it posted anywhere else but the 25 man rule does NOT apply to Cup matches, is there a chance our younsters (and some senoirs) not in the 25 man squad might get a run in the league cup?

Where are you getting that from re Balotelli etc? We were discussing it on another thread earlier & could find no such ruling amongst the available info we'd seen . All we could find was that 'unlimited U21's' could be added. No mention of nationality etc.

Players for the unlimited pool have to be under 21 on January 1st 2010 for the 2010/11 season. He was 21 at that point and therefore has to be included in the 25-squad.

...and to wade in from the other thread, agree with Ted, there is no reference anywhere to u-21s having to be 3 years at the club, that's the 8 home grown quota that you have to name in your 25 man squad i.e. the likes of SWeeP, Ireland etc all over 21, but are home grown as they were at an FA / Welsh FA affiliated club for 3 years prior to their 21st birthday.
