bum.. i didnt realise this was on.. i watched the France V England and we were getting beat and the river dried up so i didn't see what happened.. then forgot to look at the result.

is it still live now?

As far as I know its not on tv or radio but Talkshite have a man at the game...............

well if anyone cared to work out what is wrong with english football, it was all there plain as day. There is no need to go into the reasons why, but it was blindingly obvious in that game that each individual spanish player has been coached in the idea of getting the ball to one of your team mates, before anything else, so they do. hardly ever hoofing it out, just simple pass and move pass and move. They look like they have football intelligence.. but it is more like they have a basic instinct. So collectively they are all doing the same thing and have been for years so its easy. it also means they can move around the pitch and swap positions.. fucking up their markers. It looks class, but really it is the result of something very simple. i wouldn't be surprised if between ages 5 and 12 or whatever they get bollocked for misplacing a pass more than ducking a challenge or even losing a game.

You just know that in the UK it will be all about physicality and supposed individual skill.

just like the in the WC that Spanish U19 team could have put anyone of their 23 man squad on and it would have made little difference they are all that good.. at passing the ball.

As Stuart Robson said, Blake wanted them to 'get it forward quickly then press Spain & play from there'. Makes sense; lump it forward, tackle Spain in their own half & we'll be closer to their goal. I believe both City & England have some real talent at under 17 level. What better man to take them to the next level than Noel Blake? He's got his coaching badges too you know, been working on them.

I absolutely agree, but other people like him are the ones creating those troglodytes in the 1st place then handing them to him alongside the one or two poor bastard quality players who have to suffer playing in the same shite way, learning nothing. What is the purpose of that team? I'll tell you what it'll be to Blake; win at all costs to keep him in a job irrespective of what kind of football they play. They could have a pure football philosophy to play the right way win or lose, so the best players learn the right habits, but they won't, they play to suit the limitations of the donkeys rather than try to improve them. There's no real interest in creating players for the full England team, it's about keeping people in jobs by getting 'impressive' results, just as it is with the little kids rather than letting them play & enjoy football .

Who takes over when they get a bit older? Stuart fucking Pearce.

Yes it is deeper than Blake who is as much a symptom of the problem rather than the cause. But how do we cure our ills? Is there a willingness to cure our ills or do we do something high profile like limit PL squads to 25 players over 21 in order to encourage youth development and aid the national team. And yes I have no bleeding idea how this is meant to help the national team because you just know that the ruling will end up hindering rather than helping English talent.

I honestly do not think there is a solution which is a bit depressing.

Sack the whole fucking organisation of the FA from top to bottom & start again, bringing in people from places like Holland & Spain who have no mates amongst the crappy English coaches, to start a huge programme designed to promote quality football from the ground up. Build the elite training centre for the best kids & spend money to get world class coaches & top recent ex players from around the world involved. Tax the clubs to pay for it.

Except who is going to sack the FA? Adopting a ground zero approach is all well and good but who is there to actually implement any radical policy? The FA are going to drift along and apart from a few grandstanding policy pronouncements that will sound good in the press will do little to nothing to get to the heart of the problem which is our neanderthal approach to youth football, lack of quality coaching and any sort of joined up thinking to develop players that can compete with their foreign counterparts at tournament level. In fact the FA's response is to have Capello hire another English Coach as if one Stuart Pearce isn't enough. Plus the fans and the media look no further than blaming Capello for the whole sorry mess with Talkshite running a campaign to sack Capello because he hasn't bothered to go and watch the U-19's as if somehow him doing that is going to put us on the right path.

If its revolution you want I am there all the way but we have been various varieties of dogshite at international level since 1974 so I aint holding my breath here.

in ref to the FA, how about if they brought in a bit of democracy.. elected chairman and officials.

in ref to bringing on the youth, if they started now with 6 year olds by scoring games with points for completed passes and say 30 points for goals it would offset the emphasis of the game, teams could win by simply passing the ball around. Emphasis would also be on getting the ball back anywhere on the pitch. This might sound silly but it is teamwork and passing skills that need drilling into kids so that when they get older they can just do it with their eyes shut.

They need to get these faceless unaccountable people out into the open & let them tell us exactly what they're all doing, how they're doing it & how & where our money is being spent. It's ridiculous that these people have control over huge sums of money & answer only to themselves.

They need to get these faceless unaccountable people out into the open & let them tell us exactly what they're all doing, how they're doing it & how & where our money is being spent. It's ridiculous that these people have control over huge sums of money & answer only to themselves.

Agree fully with the sentiments expressed but how do we put pressure on the suits and hierarchy at Wembley? Do we rely on the media to kick start it - Talkshite are full of words but little deeds - boycott of England games? A petition around all 92 clubs to get a million signatures or so ? Don´t know what it´s like in Catalunya BBS , but I´m getting a bit peeved with all the smugness and flag draping down here - I go to more games here than the plastic Madrid and Barca fans in this part of the world. A transfer and TV rights tax should be levied in order to pay for the recruitment and courses needed to raise the number of Grade 1 coaches to an acceptable level - Catalunya has more than England - that´s a national disgrace

well the internet is a poweful tool. There is need for a simple idea for reform.. like publically elected Chairman - for a campaign to center around. Getting it dispersed around all the football forums, blogs and webs would be a piece of cake. The voice of fans cannot be ignored if it has enough groundswell.
