to stop him grumbling
The Meeja have already distorted his recent statement with their "I can't wait to leave England" headline

I think it's an acknowledgement that Kolo is no longer a regular when available, whereas Tevez clearly is.

He was captain against Valencia too, recognition of last season plus he certainly sets an example effort wise

Not a bad choice but I think YaYa might be the future captain in the long run commanding from midfield. Defensively YaYa can have a bigger impact on organisation and in constructing opportunities for Tevez to bang 'em in. Basically YaYa is in a better position to yell at everyone!

Quite funny with the ref lecturing him and he clearly didn't understand a word!

I was thinking the same. He freely admits that he can't grasp English and I was astonished to hear how bad he is, considering how long he's been here.
Maybe he should take a phrase book onto the pitch in future......

Shouldn't the title have been Captain Carlos?

As I said on the match thread ... ok I got the score wrong but the rest stands
Chinners wrote:The one thing the SS panal were spot on about was Phil Thompson saying he questioned giving Tevez the captains armband. I agree giving it to player with very little English is not a great idea. I appreciate that for alot of our players it isn't their first language but for the captain, they should at least be able to speak it, bad move imo, lets hope not. Come on City, 2-0 win today I reckon

Does he freely admit it in English by any chance? You hear him talking in the background of vids on the OS and he obviously knew exactly what was being said before the translation when he accepted his player of the year award. He speaks enough English to get by but just isn't confident speaking in interviews

Well if Bobby Manc wants someone to lead by example, he couldn't have picked a better player.
I think that Tevez will love being captain too. Going from Scum bench to City captain in one season won't do his pride any harm, will it?

I've always been a firm believer that a captain should be the manager's 'mouthpiece on the pitch'. I doubt Tevez falls into that category but it's Mancini' decision I suppose, not mine.

Maybe Bobby did it just this once to bolster his confidence. But I have to feel that the language barrier will be too much.
The captain does need to dictate the manager's wishes as well as mediate any penalty situations. It's fair to say the way that Micah is playing right now, no amount of banter would help.
My choices: Kompany, Barry & Milner (if he comes.)
And before you bash me on Milner, we gave Kolo the armband the moment he passed the medical!!!

That was my first thought when I saw the ref summoning him over; he understood the hand signals but got lost as soon as the ref said 'Mister', when Carlos was expecting a 'Senor'!

If he's taking the armband from Kolo he needs to make the decision soon.
So the question is, was today's performance the sign of a new, improved Kolo
Or is it a one-off.
I think Ya Ya would be the safest bet.
Because he's going to be our top man

I'd give the armband to Nasty Nige. The guy is a hero.

i agree with this. i love him. In a match like today. It's when we play teams who have little interest in playing football where ironically his hardman/tough guy technique gets lost in translation. Too small to win much in the air he often struggles against the Stokes of the world, etc.
Tevez has mentioned how hard he is finding it to motivate himself, and i think Mancini was just trying to throw him a life preserver. When your No 1 Employee comes out and says he isn't so sure about what he's doing with his life it probably can illicit strange responses, and i think Roberto's man management response was to say "Take us higher Carlitos. Here's a mission son."
can't imagine it will last more than a couple matches, but...who knows. My point is that it's ceremonial. A gesture.
Related, do captains matter anymore?
cheers
