  • Spurs = 2
  • Liverpool = 3
  • Sunderland = 2

Too early to make an informed decision or a worrying trend developing for the season?

I see what you're saying but to be fair, Spurs aside, the shots we have on target are normally gilt-edged chances. Its no good if you have 12 shots on target and they're all from outside the box where the keeper won't struggle.

We probably don't make too many chances. But then adain there seems to be loads of moves that are cut out at the last moment by a defender.

Statistics and all that.

I'm happy enough with our style of play. When we really get clicking it's gonna be great. To address your question it seems that the quality of chances are improving.

I assume from this you don't count Tevez as a striker?

Very interesting mate, but let's put it into context:

Spurs 8 v 2 City
City 3 v 5 Liverpool
Sunderland 3 v 2 City

And that's the worrying stat for me, the oppo's chances.

And when you place that against the teams we are trying to beat (position first/shots last):

1. Chelsea - 27
2. Arsenal - 18
3. United - 19
4. Villa - 10
9. City - 7
11. Spurs - 17
13. Liverpool - 13
18. Everton - 12

actually shows that there is a correlation with shots on goals and position in the league for the top teams. Also shows that even though Spurs have plenty of chances, they don't convert the chances they have.

For me, it's quite worrying that we have so few chances in each game and the system relies on individuals taking the chances when they come. If the forward doesn't click, neither do we.

But like you say, it's early days and the teams we have played are far superior to those that the likes of Chelsea or United have played. It'll be good to see the same stats/conversion rates once we are about 10 games in.

Manchester City have found a team-mate with just one of their 35 crosses from open play this season.

from optajoe on twitter.

interesting, and something we definitely need to work on. can't shoot without ammo.

I'd also be interested to know how many of those crosses were delivered with more than 1 City player in the box.

Bet its not many.

Which leads me to wonder why we bother to cross over 10 times a match??
