What with all the hype and anti-City b*ll*x from pre-season onwards it has been easy to get caught up in things and not reflect on quite where we are. Looking at who may start against the piemunchers and who is out injured made me once again think of what a top squad we have.
There has been quiet a lot of misgivings about due to the last two league games, but even those disappointments haven't dented most peoples view that we are there-abouts and just need a bit of time.
The Salzburg game was one of the most professional City performances we may have seen and tbh looked very unCity like. That was massively encouraging given we lined up with a different formation and players. Im starting to think that the players are starting to settle in and a lot of them are finally getting up to speed.
Game on game Tevez has looked sharper and is no longer looking off the pace, Barry was also tearing about and looking pretty sharp. This has got me to feeling that the post WC/holiday jet lag cobweb thing is finally working its way out of the system and obviously depending on player availability we are as a squad there-abouts up to speed.
There are people who dont reason like this and just expect footballers to be machines and that is unrealistic. I would say that given the circumstances of WC, Internationals, new players, injuries etc we haven't as yet seen anything like what we are capable of.. and yet we have still dominated teams while being way off our best.
So i suppose what we have at the moment is a kind of base level.. what we might expect of City on a bad hair day. The work rate is there and the attitude is there.
That leaves a lot of room for imagining what we are going to become as we continue to get sharper, more understanding between players and the return of the injured.
If what we have seen so far has basically for whatever reasons been poor.. and i think it has, then as we improve generally and also get players like Boateng on the right and Kolarov back on the left, the formation Bobby seems to want to apply is really going to take off. If and when we see most of the best players we have on the pitch together and the basic interplay of the team is as good or better than what we have seen already then we can start to hit the heights of what this bunch of players under Bobby can do.
