Sir Alex Ferguson has said that Wayne Rooney's ankle injury could keep him out for longer than expected.

The Manchester United striker sustained the knock in training last week when his future was seriously placed in doubt after stalling on a new contract and announcing he wanted to leave.

An astonishing U-turn just days later, however, means Rooney will stay at United, but after initially being ruled out for three weeks, there will be a longer wait for his return to action.

It was thought that the 25-year-old would be ready to return for the derby clash with Manchester City on 10th November, but it is now unclear when he will be available to make his comeback.

Delete 'mind games' Insert 'Lies'. Rooney will be fit for the derby without a doubt and hopefully he will keep Hernandez out of the team.

The funniest thing about that would be, if Rooney missed the derby, it would be because Scholes clogged him in training, a challenge which rags everywhere were laughing about at the time when they thought he was leaving.

It wouldn't surprise me if we get a load of bollocks about him being unfit then he suddenly turns up for the derby. Who fucking cares either way though? I'm more interested in whether Neville plays because I don't think Mancini will give him an easy ride this season like he did last, having seen him in action.

It is born out of assumption that top managers actually spend their time reading Mirror or The S*n and thinking whether certain opposition player is fit or not. I don't think that's how successfull managers like Mancini roll. When you are manager of top club, you mostly think how YOUR team plays and which of YOUR players are available. These people know that you aren't going to win the game because oppositions star player is out or lose because they are fit. They just concentrate on how to get the best out of your players who, you are positive, are more than capable of winning the game regardless of opposition line up.

I don't think that's how successfull managers like Mancini roll. When you are manager of top club, you mostly think how YOUR team plays and which of YOUR players are available. These people know that you aren't going to win the game because oppositions star player is out or lose because they are fit. They just concentrate on how to get the best out of your players who, you are positive, are more than capable of winning the game regardless of opposition line up.

What about Don Revie's famous 'dossiers' on every team that Leeds came up against? I always thought that was a load of bollox too, even though I was a nipper at the time.

One of the things that made Damned United so unrealistic. Clough never came through as kind of person who would something like that get under his skin. I can't claim to know what went on in Clough's head but neither can David Peace.

Unfortunately most managers, players & media people in this country are in awe of Ferguson & Utd so do take notice of everything he says & does & are nervous when playing them, often meaning they miss open nets & let in goals they wouldn't v other teams due to panic. Look how many chances Wolves missed, even v their reserves the other night. If we gave them half as many chances we'd be humilliated.

I saw something along these lines on telly recently. It was demonstrating how just the reputation of a certain player can induce defenders into making some shocking ricks. The example they used was the Granny Shagger. There seemed to be something in it. It is one of the stages in the Filth's downfall that is yet to fully develop, but when teams realise they are fallible then things will get worse pretty quickly for them.
