Passion is our only crime, says Adebayor

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Passion is our only crime, says Adebayor

Postby Mark (Blue Army) » Tue Nov 02, 2010 5:54 pm

Emmanuel Adebayor says he is happy to argue with any of his team-mates so long as it helps bring success to City.

The Togolese striker was involved in a heated exchange of words with Vincent Kompany at Wolves last Saturday, attracting a host of predictable headlines in the press.

But the Blues’ striker says he has a close friendship with the Belgian defender and the pair spent yesterday laughing off suggestions they are anything but good mates on and off the pitch.

“Sometimes you have to shout and bawl to try and get a reaction from your team-mates and sometimes that means getting them worked up in order to do the right thing for the team,” said Ade.

“That’s what great teams do, but it is all about passion and desire to do well and if Vincent and I are guilty of that, neither of us have a problem with it.

“We are really good friends and we have had a good laugh about some of the things that were written about us yesterday. It was funny because it is totally inaccurate.

"The press have treated it as though
there has been some kind of massive
fall out, but it couldn’t be further from
the truth – these things happen all the
time in football at every club, either in
matches or on the training ground and
the only reason, as I say, is passion"

“Vinnie and I love this club and are passionate about helping to make it successful, so if that means the odd disagreement, so be it. Trust me, if I have to have arguments with all my team-mates every single weekend in order to help us win the game, I’ll be doing exactly that and I’d want the same in return!”

Ade also says he is nearing peak form after scoring four goals in his last three appearances and hopes to win a run in the team as a result.

“I am hungry to play and haven’t had that many chances to play this season so I was determined to enjoy myself at Wolves and if people think I played well, then I’m happy, but I’d be much happier if we’d have gone on to win the game,” he said.

“My form is good and I’m feeling great, but I need to play to get some momentum and hopefully I will be able to do that now.

“I’ve been given the chance to play in the last few weeks and I’ve scored four goals which is great for my confidence and if I am involved against Lech Poznan and West Brom, I’m confident I can continue to score goals.”

Nice comments there Ade, but did you really say all that? I do think he's getting in to his stride now and I'm happier he's back into contention. The truth is, I'm not too worried about Ade scoring but more of the tactics that will be applied to aide that process.

It seems to me that there has been a major PR excercise going on at COMS this week, but at the end of day all that mtters is what happens for 90 minutes on the pitch. That is how they will be judged :)

PR exercise or not, I know full well what he is saying. Last time I was in a fist fight in my life was when I was 16 and that was after important football game we had lost. I'm the godfather of the first born son of the lad I exchanged punches with these days.

Heated exchange of words are part and parcell of the game and yes, for me it means that players care. Thing is, you get into these situations with people you know well. If you don't care about the team you will not go there and rarely you are having a go at someone you don't know that well.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

The sad part is that a PR excercise was needed at all. Maybe it was only necessary because of the idiot rag press and their need to sensationalise anything they can find or manufacture about City.

I can see this happening more and more as time passes and we present more of a threat to their beloved clubs.

Thing is John, this will contiue and get a lot worse than it is now until we start winning cups consistently. Personally all the City baiting, although irritating means we must be doing something that the snipers just dont like. In a way we should take it as a compliment

There is only one thing worse than being talked about and thats not being talked about.

I totally agree and that is why I, I predict it getting worse.
Looking back, although not quite as bad as the present day attacks, we were never given the fair recognition that we deserved when we were a successful club.
So I'm not sure if it will abate, no matter how many trophies we eventually accrue.

The great thing though John, like me I am sure you probably couldnt care less what recognition the press want to bestow on us if indeed we do go on and win things. The sheer pleasure of seeing City win things far outweighs what any other fucker out there actually thinks of our great club.

TBH, It used to really piss me off.
...and I nearly blew a fuse when that numpty Charlie Nicholas said on Sky..."We all know about Bell, Lee and Summerbee...They were great City players...but what did they win"?...or similar words.

I'll try and dig a quote out about City and a comment made by a City director about City's poor treatment by the press. The issue goes back a long way and the book was published in 1969. This is not a new thing.

...and what about that PM you owe me?...:-)
