I was upset when Sven left, but I don't keep going on about him!

I was quite glad when Hughes left, as it meant we should be stepping up a grade after all those draws. I was happy when Sven left - fuck me we were dire the last 3 months. I was overjoyed when Pearce left, and I'd had enough of Keegan at the end, playing golf all the time. Joe Royle had his day.

Frank Clarke was fucking abysmal, as was Phil Neal and as for Coppell..........................

Asa was well out of his depth and Alan Ball was the worst of the worst of the worst - God rest his soul.

Felt a bit sorry for Brian Horton - terrible, terrible mistake Francis with no replacement. Reidy was leading us to disaster by the end, although he did a decent job when Kendall betrayed us. But all Reidy's sides start off well and go downhill. In fact now at Plymouth he's cut out the good bit and just gone straight to disaster!

And it gets worse, with managers either being dire (Benson, Frizzell etc), or running out on us (McNeill, Bond, Saunders). And the start of our disasters was the mighty Big Mal's second spell. Destroyed a good side and bancrupted the club forever - ah how we love Mal.

Tony Book - ah we had it cracked then so what do we do? Move him upstairs and start our disasters. And of course there was Mal's first spell - no!

So whatever the press says, since the retirement of Joe Mercer the only managers we actually made a mistake with - other than those who walked out on us beyond our control were Tony Book and Horton - and him only because it led to a vacuum which bred Alan Ball!

One of the daftest statements these pundits make is that 'Scum are successful because they stuck with their manager'. Absolute, utter bollox in 90 percent of cases if you aint got Taggart. Imagine 25 years of Alan Ball!!

Sorry mate, that wasn't aimed at you. Maybe my little rant should have been posted in one of the other hughes threads.

My point stands though.

As much as Mancini should be backed, Hughes should be respected as a profesional who wrote a part of the Bluemoon Rising on which the work of the current gaffer is based. Any different consideration, thought, speech that works to the opposite is embarassing.
Right or wrong City is our second Country, imho.

That's a great post mate, can't really disagree with any of that, even down to the bit about Brian Horton being possibly our best manager. Know Brian quite well and was absolutely devastated when he was ousted by The Mirror, and I was totally embarrassed by the whole way things were handled. Very, very poor decision by Lee.

Just a quick personal view on our current manager, got to say that I am not convinced. There are those that think he is a poor tactician and quite frankly I agree, but that is what Kidd and Platt are there for. His main weakness seems to be motivation, we saw on Thursday a team of poorly skilled soldier ants against a team of Prancing horses and there was only ever going to be one outcome without Mancini giving the team a boot up the backside.

Best thing to see on Thursday was 1400 City fans, having been locked in after the final whistle, give the Poznan team a decent ovation on their post game lap of honour, and to see many of the Poznan players acknowledge that by clapping us back.

Let's hope he can get the team better motivated today than he did in the Carling Cup.

But if he's a poor tactician and a poor man manager (which not being able to motivate the players seems to indicate) what the hell is he actually good at? His previous track record shows that he's doing at least something right ...

It's not about tactics or man-management, it's all about getting that winning mentality. It takes time you know.
