Me and a few mates are heading to Naples in January for the Napoli V Juventus match. I was wondering has anyone on this site been to Naples before as we haven’t a clue where to go drinking and where the nightclubs are. Ive have heard that Naples is pretty dodgy. Any advice is most welcome.

Well by strange coincidence I read this in the Telegraph at the weekend and I've found it online. Put this on the back of the general 1970s problems plaguing Italian football.

If ever anyone suggests staying in Naples, the answer is simple: don't. I was there last week and was stalked, abused and had attempted attacks made on me – all in the city centre. There was rubbish in the streets and moped riders tried to rob me. Naples is a dangerous, dirty place to visit. My advice is to go and see Herculaneum, but avoid Naples.

Is there somewhere else you can go?

me and the missus past through naples on the way to rome and i got to say it was very dodgy.
we felt very intimidated and honestly thought we were about to get mugged. this was around the train station area. the outskirts of the city are even worse. we stopped at at place and it was just like salford precinct flats a few years ago but worse!

I heard that the Central Train Station is to be avoided like the plague especially the streets off the square around it. I don’t want to pre judge Naples before I even go as for all Barcelona's nice friendly image I was mugged there last year (first time ever!) and I have travelled to dozens of countries.

I dont think you would be pre-judging it by going off others' advice mate. The place is in near anarchy, no money, ruled by mobs, dustmen always on strike, corrupt police, violence everywhere. Haven't they sent in the army at least once recently?

And downtown Barcelona is known to be a bit dodgy mate, after dark! No comparison with Naples though obviously.

Beats those little alleyways around Maine Road, although the rubbish is similar!

Don't know about the streets but the police look like a proper bunch of cunts.

Sorry to hear that Fullartj... Barcelona isn't that rough it is just that they pick on tourists and trippers as they are easy pickings. But that goes for pretty much anywhere. Rule 1 dont look like a tourist if you can help it.

Barcelona's probably a fuck site safer than even St Austell tbh! (not Napoli though!)

Your probably right, there is pretty much zero violence here, just muggins and bag snatchin on epic proportions.

Wasn't the Grannies Gangs sketch based on St Austell's bad rep?

Do you really have to go there? I have been in Naples only once in my life, for two days, and I was lucky nothing happened to me. Right now with the streets full of garbage the city is at its lowest, and all what they told you about being mugged off the streets by moped riders, or generally being mugged, is true. Also, if you go, don't buy anything they offer you even if they offer a bargain on, say, cell phones or luxury watches. You'd end paying for a brick hidden in a box or something like that.
