Just came accross this, I can't help but think that this will be a magnificent idea and can only help raise our profile in other countries! I wonder if and how City will profit from this.... could be very interesting, especially if the channel wants to broadcast our games. No idea how it all works with royalties, and broadcasting rights etc.

That looks to have absolutely nothing to do with Manchester City, it just happens to be launched by our owner.

It is a news channel that wont even be shown in this country.

I can see no reason why Sheikhy would team up with Sky unless it could possibly have any positive impact with City. It doesnt specify what "News" it will broadcast, it could be general news, but there could be a heavy amount of City related news in there aswell. Who knows, but the potential will be there for it to be linked with City somehow.

Indeed, it has nowt to do with the club but like our other owners 'projects' will probably get us a few more fans abroad. Basically it will be Sky news broadcast in arabic

He is teaming up with Sky to have a positive impact on Abu Dhabi not a positive impact on one of his minor investments, any advantage to us will be minor.

Ha ha, some people on here seem to think that City are even a passing thought oin the sheikhs mind, the dude has much bigger fish to fry and he's sent us khaldoon to look after it for him.

The fella is not launching a sports channel or even a general interest channel, he's launching a news channel.... Nothing to do with City

Also because Sky provides for a sort of "tailormade platform" for the Club owned sattelite Tv and, as a further benefit, they use to broadcast it within the sport/football package of channels. All in all, it also results a bargain in term of costs, in comparison to what it'd cost to the Club the set up of a normal satellite tv, say on astra or so.
In italy is already a quite succesfull product having been arranged for the traditional Big Clubs (i.e. Inter, AC Milan, Juventus, Roma).

This channel will have minimal connection with City but as I pointed out in the Platini discussions, the Sheikh is building up a powerful finacial influence in the world's media & already has a big foot in the door of sports broadcasting. The increasing media presence & tie ups with various companies will, I believe, benefit City long term & will also be a huge bargaining tool/threat to anyone from UEFA who seeks to unfairly undermine the club as our 'sponsorship' starts to roll in.

As FIFA are currently demonstrating with their tacit approval of corruption amongst their World Cup panel, the most important thing to most of these blokes is money & power. There will come a point when unfairly messing with City becomes a way of losing both.

it might be me, but i would think that city would be in the news over there, im sure there would be clips of city games and the such like and other things related to city. im sure there will be other countries who would like to know about city in that region.

Any link with Sky is a good idea - even an overseas one (considering their dominance in the English Footie broadcasting field)
