I thought this was a thread about Elano's last performance at OT.

But now I get the hang of it - and Russia may come begging too for that matter.

I think it means when they admit they cannot organise the tournament, would we please help? Dont think that will happen though, esp in Russia. Oil and Gas money will ensure it goes ahead.

Agreed. I think FIFA has too much pride to admit failure on any of these.

The object of the exercise is to foster the love of football in strange and wonderful places and promote the growth of it therein.

Like World Cup USA 1994...

As I said in the earlier World Cup thread:

I am not annoyed or disappointed that we did not get the selection to host - simply because I never thought that we were anything other than being used by the corrupt twat blatter

What really fucking annoys and disappoints me though is that the media fuelled jingoistic ego that we have as a nation allowed us to be so gullible and so easily used.

How much energy, money etc has gone into this bid - all for the benefit of FIFA's corrupt hierarchy - because we made it look like there was a really a competition which probably meant that the bribes were higher.

And do you think that we will fall for it again - you betcha - blatter or his replacement will simply say a few favourable words and we will fall over ourselves

It would have been far better to simply stay out and expose the process for the corrupt farce that it is. It pisses me off that the BBC programme is getting the blame - if exposing the fuckers really means that we lost votes - well does that not itself demonstrate that everyone knows how bent it s - and look at the punishments handed out by FIFA recently - less than a tiny tap on the wrists and guaranteed to ensure the guys involved will have their snouts back in the trough long before the next 'selection process'

So if there is some issue with other countries - I really hope we do not come to the rescue

Australia is a weird and wonderful place and somewhere that could have made a nice holiday for world cup goers.

No, the object of the excercise is to line the pockets of Blatter, Warner and co,
The world cup won't stop the russian league being one of the most corrupt in
the world, nor will it boost football in a country that has no real interest in it.

I know its a "Sloppy Seconds" type of thing, but I Think England should ho for the Euros in 2020. By then it will have been 24 years since we've held a major International Tournament, and if we want the 2030 WC, then we need to have some practice.

No good. They've already missed the boat in terms of bidding.

Shouldn't do it anyway. Just don't play that game. France got in there early, as usual and got 2016. Now 2012 will go to Eastern Europe.

it did for girls...for sure.

i dunno how it's measured but "soccer" as you fucktards dubbed it is clearly way way way more popular in the states than 30 years ago when i was a kid. The problem is the participation drops off after like age 8 precipitously. it's seen as a game small children play to get socialized or that cute lesbians excel at. Just sayin.

cheers

Also, Heather Mitts.

I thought it did work for the USA. It's a big sport over there. Sure it's not bigger than American Football, but that's like saying that the NFL game in London every year hasn't worked because American Football isn't bigger than soccer in England.

America is one of the biggest markets for soccer and has one of the biggest playing pools. They do it in their own style, it's middle class and for kids. But what's wrong with that? Kids should be playing it, it's a good sport to actually play. There isn't the same tradition in America of participation in field sports. There's softball, which is a social activity that barely registers as a sport, mostly people just go jogging or to the gym for exercise.

Oh it definitely worked for the USA. The game is much more popular here than it was before the World Cup, and it gets more popular every year.

What did you expect, the World Cup to come and then a year later the USA have the best league in the world? Really?
