Would be a hilarious appointment.

Obviously the stupid fat bastard's been scouring the market for a manager even cheaper than Chris Hughton. I'm sure Burnley would've been willing to negotiate a settlement for Brian Laws!

Pardew's a better manager than Hughton imo. They'll do alright if they get him.

Has he definately been appointed?

The problem he will have is resentment from the players who loved Chris Hughton. He has his work cut out with a chairman like that anyway.

Ashley never fails to remind everyone what a complete clueless cunt he really is.

As much as I'm finding this funny, I'd do feel a little sorry for the fans. It's a bit like something out of a City history book. :)

Just looking at his managerial record in the Prem, and it's laughable that anyone would go for him over Hughton, based on their records in that league. It would appear however, that he's an associate of a Toon board member. Oh dear!

Based on what? Hughton's been a manager for about 18 months and taken a relegated team to midtable in the Premier League. What has he done wrong? And, more importantly, how could any other manager have bettered what he's achieved in such a short space of time?

Surely the first objective of Newcastle this year was survival, and even though their season under Hughton was up to now a roller coaster, they never looked like relegation contenders.
Sacking him was very harsh, not sure what they expect, but whatever it is, I'm sure they will be disappointed

It would be an appointment in keeping with the comedy club reputation that the Toon now have. Laughable decision to remove Hughton yet unbelievably beaten in ineptitude by this potential appointment

Ashley you are comedy gold

Very weird decision.
The only thing i can come up with is that Haughton and Ashley had a fallout?
All the Newcastle players were absolutely 100% behind Haughton.
And now there going to appoint a manager that has been sacked from a team in Southampton that's on the verge of being relegated from division 3?
Most jobs pardews had he has been sacked from.
Really mad decision, at least i thought they would of got say Matrin o neil in?
What an asshhole.
Not as if Haughton had any money to spend this season either, he's virtually had the same squad as what he went up with.
Breaking the division records btw.
And not to mention a 6-0 win at villa.
Beating there rivals sunderland 5-1 and beating Chelsea away.
Wtf is the cunt expecting lol?
Mad beyond belief.
Them fans will be demonstrating now defiantly.

Looking at his manager profile it ain't that bad actually.
Still a weird appointment.

I think Pardew is a very good manager! However I read today that he's been in talks about the job for a while after he met Ashley and Llambas (sp?) in a Casino they all used to use! Very dodgy that

Wasn't Hughton's contract up fo renewal soon? The Cock-er-nay clown probably thought he could save himself a payrise. I seriously struggle to understand it though. I hope Hughton gets another chance somewhere, the poor bloke's done nothing wrong.

Got to agree, i thought he's done very well considering the state they was in when they were relegated from the prem.

Pardew is a decent manager imo BUT what makes this poor appointment is that Pardew is a squad builder and coaching the players type rather than instant success type manager. He is not someone who will step into dressing room and change the team instantly. And it seems to me that instant results is what Fat Mike is after. Although I don't know if there is a manager in the world who could've done better that Hughton with players they have got.

Also, Pardew likes to play on the ground which is completely against the strengths of Newcastle squad. It will be interesting to see if he settles for more traditional football for a while.

He's shit and will come very close to taking them down this year i reckin. Their only saving grace is that they have some decent points in the bag to give them a cushion from dire teams like West Spam & Wolves.

Just read this on a Geordies fans forum -

if it is true that the t**t will be on a low wage with incentive bonuses for success
he could create a record for the prem becoming first manager to claim income support supplement

Probably safe to say, along with the many hundreds of similar comments, that this could be one of their worst ideas yet !

A 5 and half year contract, wtf! How is anyone supposed to last 5 and half years at the Car'Toons!

'Mickey' and 'Mouse' spring to mind here.

Exactly what I thought when I heard it too. Surely the only saving grace to this appointment would have been either a 6 month deal to the end of the season, or a rolling contract where either party could sever the deal. Sublime to the ridiculous
