Fan Orchestrators

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Fan Orchestrators

Postby King Kev » Sat Dec 18, 2010 10:09 am

After seeing the Poznan fans singing and dancing when told too at Eastlands and now we have youtube videos of the Aris fans doing the same, it got me wondering if anybody else feels the same way I do about this.

I'm all for creating an atmosphere but what these fans do doesn't seem to be anything to do with supporting their teams. They had some sad self-important tosser with a megaphone telling them what to do and, for some unfathomable reason, they all do it!
Their tittle dance routines look good but do they help their teams??

I reckon the blokes with the megaphones are really pathetic and need to get over themselves and put more energy into getting behind the team. Those that do everything they are told to do (including turning their backs on the game) are even worse than self-proclaimed 'Generals' who lead them.

If they all want to sing and dance together when they come to Manchester maybe they should give the match a miss and go to a club or something.

I think that's something more suited on the continent or in the USA. It sort of reduces the passion and introduces a robotic element. If I were told to sing, dance, chant, etc during a game it would completely ruin my 'match day experience'.

When the City fans all decided to 'do the Poznan' it wasn't orchestrated. I wasn't there but I presume it was a pretty spontaneous celebration that sparked and caught on. It's not so much about supporting the team but having a laugh as you do it.

As was shown with the 'Alan' chants, City fans have an incredible sense of irony. You can't really orchestrate shit like that.

to be fair, it looked ans sounded awesome at eastlands, I loved it. Not sure if I would want to be in the middle of it week in week out, but I would give it a go from time to time.

The best stuff is always spontaneous imo, if people latch onto something because it is good or funny, ironic or plain stupid then great. As soon as it is orchestrated it looses that spontaneity. City fans doing a bad Poznan is hilarious and is just the way it should be. The formulaic stuff is a pile of doo in my view... starts to get embarrassing tbh.

As long as the chant goes, 'Carlos Tevez is a fucking cunt!' Let someone pull out a bullhorn.

the other option is have a ground where i can hear people 2 blocks away coughing.

Also it sounds pathetic when someone tries starting a song and 3 people join in and then they realise no one else is singing and shut up halfway through a song. A bit of organization wouldnt go amiss. I mean how shit was the derby atmosphere, bluemoon barely even got anyone singing. Piss poor effort.

Doubt a player concentrating on the game would know if the fans were singing for the team or for themselves anyway because its just noise to them and a deathening atmosphere can intimidate the oppo.

I've said this before many, many times on this site and I'll say it again...........

The atmosphere is linked directly to the quality of football. I've been to many derbies at CoMS where the atmosphere has been electric. Sometimes because we're winning easily, somethimes because we're holding onto a slender lead, sometimes because it's a feisty game. This recent derby was two teams playing out for a 0-0 draw after what was probably the biggest build-up in history. The anticlimax on the pitch immediately reflected in the crowd.

Anyone who thinks CoMS doesn't have an atmosphere need only think back to the Hamburg game.

EDIT: Anyway, knowing our club and how we like to get the best of everything now we can afford it......(Marco Pierre White doing the food for example)...........would you really like to have Mr. Motivator giving you shit for not getting out of your seat when you're playing out for a 0-0 draw on the pitch?

greetings from an Aris fan

Fans around the world express their passion in different ways, and that's a consequence of many things
other than the quality of the spectacle they attend. It can be political, economic or even religious background,
how the press works towards it, what kind of strict (or not) regulations are set in each league and so on.

You've probably noticed that in our region (the Balkans) things are a bit more spicy than the rest of Europe.
Our leagues are so much crappier than Premier, La Liga or Bundesliga but it doesn't matter.
It's a bit like South America around here, people attend football matches to live the experience of
jumping around and singing for their favourite sides than actually watch a good game, that's secondary.

I do believe that intense fan support can have an effect during a match.
After our September home leg vs Atletico Madrid, their players stated they couldn't hear each other
over a distance of 2-3 metres. Booing was so loud whenever they had ball possession and kept doing
mistakes due to lack of proper communication.

For what Aris is concerned, we have a core tier called Super 3 (gate 3) that pretty much controls the
atmosphere of the whole stadium. This one takes up around 7000 of the most hardcore fans who jump
up & down singing non-stop. They do have a couple of organisers who stand (actually hang) on top of a fence
(no lame megaphones used btw, just their own shouts). Apparently that's essential when you want to
have some good simultaneous chanting from thousands of people. There is also some sort of a band in the
middle of gate 3 (few drums, snares & couple of trumpets) that set up the rhythm of the chants.

This kind of support is really important around here, it helps create a special bond around our team fans
and players: players know they'll never be alone on any given pitch, but still have to remain alerted and
not betray this mutual trust. It's an extra motivation for them to perform well.
Sounds romantic in such a professional era of football, but trust me it does work like that quite often and
when it does, it feels ace ;)

I always think that if I'm not singing then I need to be angry but the problem I get is that when I ball and shout everyone else around me goes quiet - don't know why? We should be doing something all the time whether that be singing or abusing anyone other than our team on the pitch, ensuring a real partisan atmosphere, putting pressure on the oppo players as well as the referee and assistant's.
In the words of my Old Man, "Life will never be the same without Man City, so get it in while you can".

Lech poznan fans - Best fans i have ever shared a ground with. They got TONKED, cant of been the football motivating them.

When we were relegated to division 2 - Shit football, louder than any game this season though.

Hamburg was one game, CoMS could and should be like that every game.

Read the post above from our newest member from Greece to better understand this.

I suppose 'quality of football' isn't exactly the correct term. What I'm trying to say is, what's happening on the pitch translates to the crowd. The Bolton game was an excellent example of a decent atmosphere.......which then decended into an arse twitching last 10 minutes as the party gave way to everyone shitting themselves.

Hamburg was one game, CoMS could and should be like that every game.

Having cheerleaders will never achieve that atmosphere. Like I said before, it has to be sponteneous for it to work IMO.
If someone tells me to get out of my seat, I tell them to fuck off. I'll get up if I want, I'll cheer if I want and I'll sing if I want.

That's how I like things and always have.

Everyone likes a big party (like your Hamburg quarter-final)
But when hard times come, "furs" stay at home and only true followers are there to shout. Better vibe even with less packed tiers.
We were also relegated twice the last 14 years and seen that happen first-hand.
