Set Pieces

A question for Doug. Do they ever practice set pieces? Shouldn't Platt be sorting this out?
Our corners are SHITE. No wonder we haven't scored a headed goal this season, we cant get the ball past the first defender and usually it has bounced twice before it reaches him. It is in another thread about Balotelli taking corners, seems symptomatic of the attacking unit not knowing what to do at corners....

Our free kicks have no creativity, skill or imagination either.

Yes they do but not that often and not for that long. And when they do I wouldnt say it is that real as usually there is no attack v defence set up.It's just a corner taken so that the attackers can be told where they should stand.

And why should it be Platt that should sort this out? Mancini handles all the training very personally including corners and free kicks.

I would say Kolarov should probably take all our set pieces as he is the best at it.It's not shown through properly yet but I expect it will.

Nearly every team I watch executes their corners/free kicks far better than us. Its quite disheartening everytime we have a set piece to know that nothing will come of it. Maybe its just a bit of luck thats needed or as you say Doug that the best of Kolarov is yet to show.

The whole coaching staff & all the players should have an input into set pieces imo, especially Lescott who's agression & presence pretty much solved the problem under Hughes but now has lost his influence.

We had it right & we've lost it again ffs.

I agree our best at set pieces has been Lescott. Not just that he is a good header of the ball but his movement is good and he is physical. Next best for me would be Micah.

Come to think of it i think Micah should have played last night. At least in his attacking runs he can sometimes do the unexpected.

agree with the above, last season we had good delivery in from the corner from Barry (I think) and scored a few headers (Adebayor, Kolo, Lescott amongst others).

Mario seems like our best header of the ball offensively so god knows why we are letting him take the corners, he can deliver the ball well IMO but it's a waste not to have him on the end of them

I thought Vincent and Lescott looked like a good partnership last season til Joleon got crocked so be very interesting to see if Lez can step up and claim the shirt

Excellent as Zabba was, I'd tend to agree. In hindsight, a better back 4 would have been Micah at RB & Zabba on the left but it's easy to say that after the game.

Kolarov will be well established at LB by this time next season though imo.

You just don't see any attacking intent from our players. Noone really goes for the ball. It's costing us points.

We've seen this season we can play pretty football and our build up play is soo much batter than previously so maybe Mancini wants this right before he works on the rest of our game? Our set pieces are shocking there's no expectation whatsoever when we get a corner like other fans get.

What you need to do is fill the ball with candy, then everyone will try real hard to get it in!!
