This just amazes me. He makes $300,000 a year (£195,000) in his contract with MLS. Obviously has many endorsements over here, and he probably made another £10-15,000 a week playing 10 matches for Everton in 2010 and Bayern Munich (6 matches) in 2009. Yet he is asking for spousal support AND legal fees from him Class B actress wife??? Apparently she has a net worth of $3 million (£1.95 million), but really? The dwarf should have been happy to have had her for 3 years. It is not like he is broke.

The real question is: what kind of man, who has money asks for spousal support? Classic. Only in Ameri... err.. Football.

‘Rules of Engagement’ actress Bianca Kajlich and her husband, Team USA soccer star Landon Donovan, have been separated for more than a year. Tuesday, Landon took the final step on the road to totally dissolving their marriage, filing for divorce in Los Angeles.

“We remain the closest of friends and will always be important parts of each other’s lives,” the former couple said in a joint statement [via PEOPLE].

Landon and Bianca wed on New Year’s Eve 2006, but separated three years later in October 2009 according to the divorce petition.

A year later, reports surfaced that Landon and Bianca could reconcile after the 2010 World Cup, however days later rumors surrounded the soccer star, claiming he had fathered a love child with an unidentified British woman. The allegations were later determined to be untrue, with the soccer star telling E! Online, “I will not be a dad anytime soon, with is good news for me.”

Citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for their divorce, Landon is seeking spousal support and attorney fees. The pair have no children.

Perhaps that is why Landon is not looking for a summer loan deal to take him back to the Premiership or another European club.

It says enough about Donovan that he has the talent to compete at international level and in a top league, but would prefer to sit in a mediocre league on wages 90% of players in that league dream of and accomplish little. He and Beckham deserve each other.

I think his spell at Bayer Leverkusen said it all... the is little pressure playing football in Los Angeles, and there is in Europe. Even playing for Team USA probably is less pressure then playing for Oldham.

Landon has changed in the last 3 years and i think gotten the monkey off his back. Honestly, 300K isn't a lot of money, so any working actress worth her salt in Hollywood prollee makes 5x that in a year. It does make him seem like a little bitch, but maybe it's just a negotiating strategy to make sure she doesn't steal his fave gay porn in the settlement.

Landon would play in England if someone came in for him...i am sure of that.

cheers

Interesting that he only earns 300k a year. I actually think he is a decent player and could easily earn 30-40k a week over here.

Landycakes is a good player, but he doesn't have the mental toughness to play in a foreign country week in week out. In cultural terms, England is probably the the easiest for him to adapt to, but I still don't think he could do it long term.

I think there is a cap on how much players can make. I believe each team has 1-2 exemptions. LA's is Beckham.

that's right. i think they have 2...dunno why he wouldn't be the other, but who knows.

I also disagree with an earlier post about him being able to hack it week in and week out in another country. That's the old Landon..i think he would be a tidy player for many teams in the Prem, and could play again in Germany with a different result.

Cheers

being a watcher of mls i laughed when he signed on loan at everton coz i thought he was too too soft despite being technically good but i was proved wrong so there ya go. do agree that he would do better in germany but i think it's indicative of the current PL that IMHO he'd struggle to get a start in la liga - he's good but he aint that good.

They probably make three or four times this in advertising and likeness rights. And as for asking money from his ex, who knows what a woman can make a man do??

That would be the Designated Player Rule or the Beckham Rule. LA has 2 designated players Beckham and Landon.

I've always wondered why his name is back to front, he isn't Chinese?

Landon is a perfectly legit first name. Did you never watch Star Wars?

Btw, the Hungarians do it back to front as well (their names, that is, I don't have any bed room experience with Hungarians).

Turns out I wasn't either. The Star Wars guy is called Lando without the "n".

Just as well, would hate to see people naming their kids after star wars characters, even I know that there was a big hairy one called chewbacca!
