Just thinking, who was the last City player to be granted a testimonial?

(I don't know the answer).

My first thought was Paul Lake

Had a look on this man city memorabilia site, and if the programmes they have is a complete record would suggest that is right - also surprising how few players get testimonials, even going back to the "one club man" days

Surely testimonials were for the benefit of players let loose on the cruel world with no future career, and having earned barely enough to cover their Friday night drinks tab.

Nowadays they earn enough in 5 years to retire in luxury forever, so does anyone really deserve more of our dosh?

In general they tend to use them as charity fundr aising events these days dont they? It's pretty much the only way a modern day fan would pay to attend one.

Unless of course it is a rag, in which case the fucking idiots pay for a meaningless match to further line the pockets of the likes of Keane

I seem to remember Ian Brightwell getting one?

Didn't some City players play in either Niall Quinn's or Peter Reid's too?

At home, I've got a programme from a testimonial, late 60s, I'd guess, Us vs Rags at cricket.

Richard Dunne played for us in his 10th season and was then sold, he apparently didn't want to leave. Weaver came close to getting one too.

SWP has 10 seasons too but not uninterrupted, and he didn't play in his first one so maybe it would be better to call next year his testimonial one.
