Gel?

I genuinely think that elusive and mysterious 'gelling' is starting to creep in

Not just the usual first team either but across the squad

Time to get excited yet?

It's been there for quite a while.

5 wins in our last 7. Certainly feels like it.

One more win and we pass 40 points! Safe from relegation, job done.

It should always be the first target!

I don't believe in the concept of gelling.

If you have players who pass and move, they will look good playing with others who pass and move. Its when half the team do pass and move, and half the team don't or cant be arsed when it goes tits up, and what we have had at home most of the season.

But if the players pass and move, and the other players don't pass and move accordingly, the team will look bad.

Is that not what I said in the next sentence?

The point is that the most successful players ALWAYS pass and move. If they dont then they will struggle, but it doesnt take a team to "gel" for each individual to play their part towards the common cause

Maybe I didn't understand what you meant then. Or maybe I didn't express myself well; what I meant is, you can have ten players who are excellent at passing and moving, but if the one who makes the pass doesn't know which way his teammate will move, he's likely to gift the ball to the opposition; when he learns the movements of all his teamamtes, he won't give the ball away so often. It's not that half the team moves and the other doesn't, it's more to do with the team moving "as an orchestra", where everyone knows what the other will do next. If that's what you meant, then I'm sorry for misinterpreting your post.

Gelling does exist. For example it took a while for Silva to realise which side Tevez likes the ball to be played to, or Yaya who he can trust certain passes with, or where to expect Jonno to be for example.

Yaya getting use to the pace of the game is all part of the team gelling. We still arent quite there yet, but we are 90% there.

Balo look abit more useful in the middle too

Definately agree about Balo, he even won a few headers that Yaya picked up the 2nd balll from which launced new attacks - first time i seen us do that in a few years now
