SWP Training - Question For Doug

Postby King Kev » Wed Dec 29, 2010 10:43 am

Apologies to everybody for starting a thread that is aimed at just one person but I think Doug may be the only person able to answer my question.

I can't for the life or me understand why Shaun doesn't get more chances in the first team so wondered if he is letting himself down in training? Is he a bit half-hearted or does he display any sort of negativity in his training?

I'm not trying to answer the question, which is aimed at Doug, but Doug did report that SWP got an injury in training on the 23rd December and hasn't been seen since (in training that is)

His Dad's been a twat to us. Is it possible they think this negativity may start with Shaun himself?

Surely if he was telling his dad how great we were it would show a little in his opinions?

One further explanation is that, whenever he has stepped on the pitch in the last 18 months, he's been dire.

I cannot seriously believe you have watched him play Dubs. We've moved on from the odd flash in the pan being good enough to rescue a dire team of journeymen. We need to keep the ball at this level, and Sweep is a guaranteed possession to the other team.

He was back in training today and the answer to the question isn't that easy. No doubt at all he gives everything in training, never shirks anything and often stays back for a bit extra.I would say the quality in training is also on average pretty good although a little inconsistent.

As an example today he seemed really up for it,plenty of effort, a good touch but that final ball a little too often wasnt quite right. On the whole though what I saw today,if I was the manager would encourage me to get him at least on the bench or if he wanted to rest players I would definitely have him in contention.

for me the resaon why SWP and AJ are not first team regulars is that RM likes one touch football and neither of these 2 are experts at that style of play. Thier games are all about running at players then flicking across a ball in to the box. Tevez and Silva are too small for those balls and prefer the ball played from behind, so neither suit the current team set up. AJ being the younger is getting on the bench and comes on against teams we can't pass through, or plays in games where Tevez is rested and replaced with a big front man in Mario or Jo. SWP being much older is overlooked as not seen to be in our future plans.

Basically he's just not good enough to command a starting or even bench place now ... bless the fella as he was immense for us in his first spell ... times and City have moved on.

Cheers for the reply mate, interesting stuff.

With so many games in such a short space of time it will be interesting to see if he gets into the squad, but I have a feeling that he won't for some reason.

I'm pretty sure this goes a long way to explaining SWPs predicament. For his dad to bring his grievences about his contract negotiations onto a national, commercial radio station beggars belief. This behaviour can only have done his prospects at City a great deal of harm.

That and the fact he's been mostly shite when he has had his chances this season.

Is Ian 'Im the biggest England fan in the world' Wright still his manager/advisor?

Simple really apart from one game, whenever his chance has arisen, I think his performances have been very poor, very much like bridge & adebyour. If you don't do the business now as a fringe player when chances present themselves, you don't get picked and whilst I like SWP, effort for city is no longer good enough
