Lescott and Kompany

Postby Wooders » Wed Dec 29, 2010 11:20 am

the way forward?

I have to say I think they would make a great partnership and the manc needs to give them some more games

how do you feel ? prefer toure and komps? want us to sign pepe or luiz to partner komps? Is it fair to assume you would all want komps to stay as our first choice CB?

I'd give em a few games together. The back 4 needs to stop having games like last Monday night and i'm more confident that these 2 will give us that platform.
Balotelli......that's a brilliant finish.

Lescott was very good yesterday but pretty poor at Newcastle.

The jury is still out as far as I'm concerned.

I like one of them to have pace if poss but for some games they're the right pair. I really don't think we should let Lescott go, even if we sign some character like Luiz. There are plenty of games where we can rotate & use him & he's a good solid pro for when we pick up injuries. New young defenders will often struggle in the Prem, just like Boateng is doing.

This is the toughest call on the pitch for me, even ahead of the keeper issue at the start of the season.

I'd like to seee who Komps prefers playing with/ performs better alongside, but I wouldn't have changed it until Kolo got suspended.

Komps definitely 1st choice, I'd actually prefer us not to sign another CB tho as I don't want to upset the current 3 and Jerome and Micah should be acceptable cover beyond the main 3, with Boyata as an emergency.
Tracking back is overrated.

I think Lescott reaches a decent pace flat out but has no acceleration so get's left behind in the 1st few yards if he's not careful.

I thought he did OK at Newcastle, didn't win every challenge with Carroll, but not many will & he certainly won more than Kolo would have won. He won his share and didn't let us down by any means. Last night he was excellent and even scored our first headed goal of the season. Liuz is not as good in the air as Lescott although he is quicker, but would seem an expensive replacement

We nearly saw them peak last season but Komps got injured.

They is scope in that pairing. It's Lescott that needs another 5 games to peak. Its looking good though, a nice problem to have. To be honest in an ideal world we could swap them all about to tailor the opposition attack. Big physical teams like Newcastle, Bolton, Blackburn etc would be best faced with Kompany and Lescott. But against the better top 4 sides I'd feel more confident with Kompany and Toure.

I think the big difference is when Lescott plays Vinnie is the right sided CB. In this set-up both lescott and Vinnie look totally comfortable. When Kollo (can't jump) plays Vinne gets stuck as the left sided CB which must take something out of his game.
