One of the best signings last year. Wasn't it only 8 million?

It was, but only a few clubs (vdV's) were consulted.

VDV or Silva?

two different sort of players. Silva is more of a Modric/Fabergas type of player. I'd take both.

We are missing a player of his lk,he would work fantastically alongside Silva, always looking to get forward,a link between midfield and attack with supreme vision. We missed that boat without a doubt.

I guess Sneijder or schweinsteiger are the closest to similar?

Tonights midfield proved we need something different,we were far too one dimensional, all posessing similar attributes which badly resricts us.We also lacked mobility and pace,Arsenal ran rings around us in that department,i'm not sure if it was instruction or simply a lack of ability to get forward and suppport Tevez.

He's alright, he's lucky he is on form. he's been poor his entire career, he's just having a decent run.

We definately missed a trick not signing that fella. Going from the highlights on MOTD last night he looked fantastic.

Very good player.

there's no way on this Earth that we weren't consulted about signing him. These people are businessmen - if they are about to sell one of their assets, the first place to call is the richest buyer around.

We need an attack minded midfielder.

Whilst it not being the main reason (tactics were), last night proved we need someone other than Silva to give us a spark when he's not around.

I think we should try swap Kaka for Ade (and whatever cash is involved).

just sayin...

If we would have wanted him, the price would had been at least 15 mil.

Sorry but that is just not true. He has been excellent at Hamburg and he was good at Real Madrid too.

I'd prefer Schweinsteiger over him any day of the week though... or Sneijder.... but they'd both cost lot more than 8m.

I hate Spurs and the Twitching Twat as much as anyone but VDV is the signing of the season imho for 8m.

I had him on Championship Manager 3 and he won the world player of the year award. Absolutely fantastic buy.

wow. Well that's just bollocks. Van der Vart has been star and brilliant player throughout his career. He didn't really fit the system in Real and as a person is high maintenance twat but as far as talent goes, he has been one of the best in the world for ages.

I kind of know why Mancini wasn't interested though. It's clear that he wants his central midfielders to be able to defend. VdV is shite at defending. He wouldn't really have suited Mancini's favoured system.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?
