It is understood that Villa will take the 30-year-old left-back on loan until the end of the season and — astonishingly — pay the £90,000-a-week wages he earns at Eastlands in full.

Why is that astonishing?

In the context of things, it's not a huge amount of money. They get an experienced international fullback in the prime of his career who's fallen down the pecking order here.

He'll be eager to have a few good games. It's not like they're talking about Danny Mills.

Can they take that cricket stump Jo as well ?

Well they are in the bottom 3 ... and they do look dire sometimes. The team as a whole doesn't have the fight of a team like wolves, so I would say Villa should rightfully be scared of the drop. Don't think spending 90k p/w on bridgey is the answer, but i'm not going to tell them how to run their club.

Now i got slated for saying we had no chance of winning the league but i think there more chance of villa goin down and if they dont turn there form round , a very big chance, than us winning the league

Just don't understand why they're going all out for a player in a position where they already are, by their standards, well covered. Why don't they try and bring in an attacker instead, it seems they're letting Carew go, Heskey is crocked and poor and Agbonlahor hasn't hit any sort of form. It could be that Wayne is a slight upgrade from Warnock, but how is that going to turn their season around?

I'm willing to bet a fiver with all of the above. Any takers???

They looked like relegation fodder when we played them, maybe a few new signings can kickstart a revival though.

An awful amount of goals conceded have come from Warnock's side and he has cost them the most points, followed by Collins then Dunne. Their defence is all over the place at the moment and cannot deal with the tactics/coaching methods that their manager has employed on the training ground (hence the Dunne arguments and his failing out). The sooner GH is sacked the better they'll start performing.

They are def in position where they need to get rid of him ASAP. They will not go down with him but Houllier is a disaster there and no amount of patience is going to change that.

What made Houllier's appointment so stupid in the first place was that they did no background check on him. Just went with the top name available. The type of playing squad Villa had was nothing like the kind of football Houllier prefers. So if Lerner didn't have 100 million burning on his back pocket for squad revamp then he should've gone with a manager who likes the type of players O'Neill had brought there.

Spot on assessment there; and throw in the factor that GH thinks it's still 2001 with Pires and Heskey his prized players it's a recipe for diaster. The squad that Villa have and the method they have all being coached by MoN means that they are the ideal club for Big Fat Sam to manage. He'd get them back into the top six.

Haven't realized that, tbh, always thought Warnock was decent left-back. Anyhow, their current squad should be enough for top 10 with a bit more luck with injuries, and I think Big Sam is a good shout. Question is if Lerner has the balls to give GH the boot already

As someone struggling in the throes of old age, poverty and senility, no matter how tempting this prospect is, I'll have to decline your kind and generous offer.

However, I'm sure that everyone on this forum will now be watching Villa's "progress" this season, with renewed interest.

I'm with the pants on this one. Villa are luck there is a fair amount of sides much worse than them knocking about.
