According to Bluemoon the club aren't going to produce any more of the red & black scarves after the 3,000 they did for the Leicester game. However you can get them on e-bay by putting "Manchester City 1970s style away scarf" in the search box. 11 quid from a company in Devon www.1000flags.co.uk. They've had them for some time, not just spotted a chance for some quick sales. I've not posted this before as it would have benefitted Neil's cancer hospital appeal for people to buy the scarves from the club, but if MCFC aren't going to produce any more, people who want them can get them this way. The scarf looked a bit orange in the picture on their website but the company owner (a Torquay fan) promises it's red. There's some nonsense on BM from people saying who should and shouldn't be allowed to wear the r & b or when it can be worn. Sod that, though, I've wanted another of these since I lost one at Ipswich 30 years ago. And yes, I made a decent donation to the Nelly fund, before any of the BM moaners bring that up.

you have just spawned a great idea.. ' the return of the silk scarf ' , i have recently read on a mod webpage of a guy who can run up to order, limited batches of silk scarves (think tootal/ 60's retro) to your design ! if anybody on here (t shirt dept.) has the time/energy to design and pursue this i would try to establish contacts.

Not sure why City can't produce more. Even if it was advertised as a limited edition, City fans will have bought them for the cause rather than being some future collectors item.
As long as they recoup the costs, they can produce these on an unlimited basis, so even more can be collected for Neil.
If they sell anothe 5,000 then all well and good

The club fucked up,, they were supposed to be available on the 1st of january Blackpool game but then decided they could be picked up on the 6th of january 3 days before the Leicester game which didn't give the out of towners the chance to get them.

Hi Guys, my first time on this site but here goes and sorry if it sounds like I'm blowing my own trumpet.

I've been a City since just before god created earth and over the last 14 years have had the good fortune to become friends with one of my all time heros, Neil Young. I started and I'm the driving force behind the Neil Young Appeal. I'll avoid the details but as you all know Neil has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Since that initial diagnosis just six weeks ago it's been all downhill for Nelly. Simple but sad fact is he's a dying man.

The red & black scarves appeal for Nelly has created great interest with 3.000 produced at a cost of £8,000 to the club being snapped up within 24 hours. Many more supporters still want a Nelly scarf. The club will not be funding or selling any more Nelly scarves.

With that in mind I have approached two manufacturers to obtain more original Nelly scarves which I will then sell on to supporters with all profits going to the Neil Young Appeal. Watch this space.

In case you're not familiar with the Neil Young Appeal it's an appeal for money which will be split 50 50 between Neil and his family and the Cecelia Unit at Wythenshawe Hospital where Neil in his own words is recieving excellent treatment.

You can donate to the Appeal by logging onto www.mcfcsc.com where there is a Paypal button. You can also send cheques to me made payable to Manchester City FC Supporters Club and forwarded to

Alex Channon
Penalty Spot
11 Thirlmere Avenue
Swinton
Manchester
M27 5XD

Some kind souls have sent me cash that way. I can't recommend it as it's a risky way to donate but great when I receive it.

There's a bucket collection at the game on Tuesday night so please feel free to empty your wallets and purses that way.

Kind regards to all

Alex the Blue

http://www.footballheaven.net/acatalog/ ... Scarf.html much cheaper on there.

Although i don't see the point myself of people buying them, they were a one off thing for a worthy cause, we don't play in red and black and if i saw a fan with it on in town i would assume he was a united fan. My scarf is now in the draw never to be brought out again for football and i use my trusty blue and white one as they are our colours and what we play in.

In my opinion of course.

It does but it is a colour that isn't associated with us at this present time, the ground IMO should be packed with blue and white, any other colours and we will start to look like confused fuckers like the rags with all their rainbow coloured scarfs.

The rags never played in rainbow colours, that is why they are confused. Black and red is part of our history and i will never forget.

The main thing here is if you want a red & black scarf wait to get one from Alex Channon (see above) of the Swinton supporters branch. That way the money will go to Neil Young/hospital fund.
As for the history, if you can't remember City playing in those colours in 1969 as Alex & I can, then the Blackburn promotion game is more recent. It should be the permanent change kit when there's a color clash, but I doubt that will happen as the club/Etihad will want to have the cash registers ringing with a new shirt every August.

Doesnt stop Sunderland,Newcastle,Rags,Everton, blah blah tweaking their simple kits and releasing a new one.

If City wanted it we could have a red and black kit every year.

I have never seen a utd fan with a scarf comprised of just red and black. They have red, white and black, or more commonly something that should be used to warm the wattles of Delia Smith.

Our history is always relevant, and although we don't have a red and black away kit at this moment in time (stripes on the third kit notwithstanding), most of us surely have an affection for it. That's before even mentioning the obvious good cause for Nelly, and recognition of all he did for the club.

Good on you Alex btw. Top man.

im with the georian genius on this.
i totaly understand why people are buying them and as a one off , yes....but , unless our away kit was red and black every season i wouldnt wear it.
im 37 and red and black really doesnt mean that much to me although i do like the red and black away kits.
if you were walking round anywhere and a non city fan saw you wearing it 95% wouldnt know what it was for but if you had the blue and white i reckon the vast majority would.
the good thing to come out of this sad , horrible time is more awareness and the generosity of blues every where.
i will just make the donation.
