"Bandwidth Limit Exceeded"

Postby King Kev » Wed Jan 19, 2011 9:22 am

Sorry we have been out of action for a while, if our hosts had contacted me to let me know we were approaching our limit rather than just taking the site down this could have been avoided.

I have purchased some extra bandwidth which I am hoping will be enough to see us through the next few days until we get our next month's allowance.

We will be looking at ways to reduce our bandwidth usage and also our data storage (which is also over-limit!) If you have any suggestions please post them in this thread.

The financial situation of this site is that we don't have a penny in the coffers (I paid for the extra bandwidth myself). We have paid for our hosting until December, this costs £85 per year, and our domain name is paid up until April 2014. The t-shirt money, which should be paid to us soon, will cover the hosting costs for next year but there is very little margin for extras such as extra bandwidth and storage.

Many of you have offered in the past to help out with the costs but we have always tried to survive without contributions our members.
However, if anybody does want to chip in a couple of quid it would be a great help. Nobody is obliged to give anything, but if you enjoy this site and would like to make a small contribution you can do so by using paypal and email address lee@mancityfans.net

Many thanks and sorry for the site not being available last night.

Hi Lee,

I will gladly contribute through a donation! Do I get a light-blue/yellow username then?

I don't really know what's eating most bandwidth, so it's a bit hard to make suggestions. E.g. are embedded Youtube films a concern? if so, give user's a quota per month (1 or 2 per month or something).
I also think we should look at disabling signatures or to have a stricter size limit for them.
Oh, and if we ban NQDP, the daily post count will effectively be halved ... Just sayin.

Yeah, I get the same. Tried to log on to PayPal before clicking the link, but that doesn't work either.

Nope
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

The sigs and youtube links are linked from another server though so shouldnt be doing it.
I rate its just purely numbers of people browsing aka Guests.

I'll happily donate a few notes if the link worked.

Would banning guests from viewing topics and things work? I know you can't view off topic unless you're registered.

Ha ha, sometimes people ask for reciepts for a bit more than they actually paid. I think Dronny might be an MP!
